Update 27 September 2019

Interhouse Sports Competition – S1s

The sports leaders have decided to postpone the S1 Interhouse tournament due to the weather forecast for tomorrow. S1 students should come to school tomorrow in their school uniform with their work for their classes.

Information Update

We still have outstanding PC1s and Annual Data Check forms which are required to be checked by parent/carers, updated as appropriate, signed and returned. Please can they be handed in ASAP.

Interhouse Sports Competition

S2s have been taking part in a combined hockey and football competition today.

S1s will have their Interhouse Sports Competition on Friday 4 October. The competition will last from periods 1 to 3, and all students taking part are therefore asked to attend school in house coloured PE kit, not uniform. Tracksuits are recommended to be worn over PE kit.

This will come at no cost the students, and uniform will not be required for period 4 after the event.

Suitable footwear, such as trainers are suggested for both football and hockey, with moulded studs being allowed, but metal studs being prohibited. If students have gum shields, their own hockey sticks or shin pads, these can be brought in. Students should also bring a water bottle and a snack for break time, to ensure they maintain hydration throughout the competition.

Due to the scale of the event, parents and carers are unfortunately unable to attend the competition. Students will be outside for the duration of the event and therefore, the weather must be appropriate for this to take place. In the event of a poor weather forecast, a final decision on the running of the event will be made on the Thursday lunchtime 3rd and all parents and carers will be informed via DGS’s group text system.

In the event of a weather call off – we will attempt to move the competition to a later date.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

Due to the demand for Duke of Edinburgh in the Dunbar area, we are keen to explore how we can establish and support a community DofE group. The school will be working with ELC Community Learning and Development to help support parents and carers and members of the community to establish this new group. We will be holding an information evening on Thursday 10 October at 7pm.

It is made up of 8 sessions and will take place 1 period per week (this will rotate to avoid your child missing the same class each week). If you feel that your child would benefit from taking part, please contact their Guidance Teacher.
