Update 7 May 2021

Senior Phase Assessments

If you have any matters around assessments which they would like to discuss or require any advice or support, they should not hesitate to contact us at admin@dunbargrammar.elcschool.org.uk

Sharing of Marks During the Assessment Window

As the assessment window continues, we recognise that students may feel differently about receiving their marks from each of their assessments.  In line with the SQA guidance, marks and/or percentages will be available once they have been marked by teachers and students may choose to have this information as soon as it is available or wait until the end of the assessment window.  This is completely voluntary and dependent upon each young person’s wishes.  However, to assist students and parents in interpreting this information in relation to their overall grades we have produced this document which summarises the various marks and weightings associated with each assessment.

We hope that this will assist pupils and parents in interpreting their results and understanding how their final grades will be calculated.  We realise this is a challenging time for students, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any queries regarding assessments.

Stars of the Week

The winners for this week are below:

Ian Davies, Science (SUPPORT)

Student nomination said

  • ‘I had my first lesson with Mr Davies this week as my previous science teacher has taken a different class. As soon as I walked in he made me feel very welcome and happy.  He introduced himself and asked us what we expect from him as a teacher and he wrote all of our ideas on the board. He agreed to be a kind teacher who will make our lessons enjoyable and he will also make sure we understand everything that we are learning. He made me feel very relieved because I knew I wouldn’t have to worry about not understanding a topic.’

Staff nominations said

  • ‘Mr Davies is always so welcoming whenever you pass through Science. On the few occasions that I have had cover lessons in science, he always ensures you are well supported and that the tasks left for the lesson are made clear. He is an extremely supportive member of staff and totally worthy of Start of the Week!’
  • ‘Most organised cover comes from his Dept- always such a breeze to cover in science. He is always there to start the lesson/ make sure that you have everything you need!’

Thank you!

Jenni Robinson, Maths (SUPPORT and INCLUSION)

 Student nominations said

  • ‘Miss Robinson only teaches my class once a week but is nothing but there for my entire class. Maths isn’t my strong point but Miss Robinson supports me through this and makes the workload manageable.’
  • ‘Miss Robinson is extremely helpful in maths, she makes sure that everyone understands and if you don’t she will come over and help you, I find maths quite difficult but with the help of Miss Robinson I am enjoying going to maths and getting ready to learn.’
  • ‘Miss Robinson is always in the mood for a laugh in class and is always trying to bring out the best of me and my classmates. She is such a laugh.’

Thank you!

Ben Cartwright S6 (Effort)

Ben has been an exceptional student in drama throughout this entire year. He has attended every rehearsal, kept up with his written workload and done all of this with a smile on his face and polite greeting each morning.

This positive attitude really has paid off and resulted in Ben being the first Advanced Higher candidate to finish their dissertation this year, submitting it a full week before the deadline!

The drama department wants to wish Ben all the best for his adventures in the wider world next year and really will miss the passion and enthusiasm he has brought to us since his first day here. Well done Ben, you are truly a star!

Hamish Balharrie S6 (Support)

Hamish is always amazingly cheery in the morning.  His  upbeat presence and positivity start the day off well. He is unfailingly helpful and always has a smile and a good wish for the class for the rest of the day.

Hamish you are a STAR!
