Update 9 September 2022

As you will be aware, the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II was announced yesterday evening. The Queen gave a lifetime’s service to the nation and we are deeply saddened by the news of her passing. The DGS community offer sincere condolences to the Royal Family.

East Lothian Council has set up a dedicated webpage – Tributes to Queen Elizabeth II | East Lothian Council – with tributes from the Provost and Lord-Lieutenant. There is also a link to an online book of condolence where people can send their own message of condolence to the Royal Family.

S4 Work Experience

S4 work experience will be taking place over 2 weeks in November. 4C1,2,3 & 4 will be going out for a week beginning the 7th of November and 4C5,6,7& 8 will be going out for a week beginning the 14th of November. All pupils have been issued with log in details in PSE this week. Over the course of the next few weeks they will be planning what placement is best for them. We encourage pupils to find placements at companies that they have a genuine interest in so that they get the most from it. There is an expectation that all pupils go out on work experience as it is an important part of the curriculum for preparing them for life post school.

Pupils who have found a self- found placement should send this link to the employer once they have agreed to take them. https://tinyurl.com/Eastlothianworkplacement

Possible S4/5 Residential Trip

We are making some initial enquiries into a potential S4/5 residential  experience in June 2023.  It is important to stress that this is not a confirmed trip. At this stage, we just need to ascertain the level of interest to work out if the trip would be viable.

We are looking to run this towards the end of term in June 2023. Student numbers will be limited by the number of staff who would be able to be released during term time to accompany and supervise. This is why we need to ascertain interest levels.

The possible options we are exploring are a cultural trip to either Paris or Berlin and would cost approximately £600.

If you are interested in your young person potentially taking part in this experience, we would be grateful if you could complete this form https://forms.gle/vRHPN1gHQhmpzX5g9   by Friday 16th September

Parent Council – DGSC

S4/5/6 Uniform

Just 4 weeks into term we have noticed that for a small number of S4/5/6 students the standard of uniform has started to slip.  We would like to request parental support to ensure that your young person comes appropriately dressed to school.  A copy of the uniform policy can be found here School Uniform Description 22-23 but in essence all students should wear a shirt and tie (blazer or plain jumper on top is optional) OR a DGS sweatshirt or polo shirt.

School jumpers wanted

We are always looking to top up our in-school supply of DGS sweatshirts (especially larger sizes).  If you have any school jumpers which are too small for your young person and would like to donate these to the school uniform supply. They can be handed into the school office at any time.

Google Guardian Summaries

Guardian summaries allow parents to receive regular updates by email of assignments posted to students on their Google classrooms.  The summaries allow parents to keep track of any upcoming, late or missing assignments and if you have a Google email account you can also manage the frequency of such updates.  To sign up for guardian summaries, students must give consent by filling in the consent form linked below.  It is important that they supply an accurate parental email address on this form as this will be the address used to invite their guardians.  To set this up, follow these steps:

  1. Ask your child to sign into Google using their EduBuzz account
  2. Complete the consent form by following this link (this has also been shared on the year group Google classrooms)

Parents Portal

East Lothian Council has introduced  Parentsportal.scot for P1 to S6 pupils. This is a new digital service to help replace the traditional school bag run, by providing direct communication to parents through a growing set of online services, using one single login.

The portal has been developed to help provide parents with a clear insight into their child’s education and to support transactional communications between them and the school.

Registration for a Parent’s Portal customer account uses the MyGovScot myaccount service. This is a secure and trusted service provided by the Scottish Government. Most parents have already registered with myaccount to use the SchoolPay online payment system and you can use the same login details for the Parent’s Portal.
