Calling All Parents – S3 Careers Awareness Day 2022

Dunbar Grammar School are hosting an S3 Careers Awareness Day on Tuesday 22nd November 2022 from 9.30 am till 1 pm.

We would be delighted to have some parents within our school community involved.

Could you inspire our young people by sharing your career journey, a typical workday, education requirements, details of any apprenticeships/training schemes your organization offers and more?

This is an opportunity for our students to speak with someone whose career choice interests them and to explore areas they may not have considered before. The format of the day will be a carousel – informal chats with small groups of students round a table.  We would appreciate your willingness to support and be involved in this event.  If you are interested in participating, please get in touch with Mrs Lancaster via the school email or contact the school office

S4 Work Experience

S4 work experience will be taking place over 2 weeks in November. 4C1,2,3 & 4 will be going out for a week beginning the 7th of November and 4C5,6,7& 8 will be going out for a week beginning the 14th of November. All pupils have been issued with log in details in PSE this week. Over the course of the next few weeks they will be planning what placement is best for them. We encourage pupils to find placements at companies that they have a genuine interest in so that they get the most from it. There is an expectation that all pupils go out on work experience as it is an important part of the curriculum for preparing them for life post school.

Pupils who have found a self- found placement should send this link to the employer once they have agreed to take them. https://tinyurl.com/Eastlothianworkplacement

Community Arts Consultation

To assist with future planning, East Lothian Council Arts Service and The Brunton Theatre Trust are carrying out a consultation into East Lothian residents’ views about participatory arts activities at The Brunton in Musselburgh and also out in the community, across East Lothian. This consultation is taking place in order to get residents’ views and to make sure activities respond to identified interests and needs.

Individuals and groups are being encouraged to complete a survey accessed on East Lothian Council’s consultation portal, linked to here https://bit.ly/ArtsViews .

Hard copies of the survey are available to pick up in East Lothian libraries and from The Brunton box office counter. The survey will be available to complete until 10 December.

The results of the consultation will be used to develop plans for arts activities going forward.

In response to young people sharing with us their concerns and questions about the cost crisis, along with a desire to play their part in supporting households during this time, we’ve launched a dedicated information hub to support young people.

We want to ensure that we’re providing services and information to young people that are relevant to them. Our new survey is an opportunity for young people to tell us how we can best support them during this challenging time.

This survey is open to all young people aged 11-25 across Scotland. All their responses will be completely anonymous and we encourage young people to be as honest as possible. Young Scot Members can redeem 150 Rewards Points at the end of the survey. Once young people redeem their points they will also be entered into our prize draw to win one of ten £25 Love2Shop vouchers!
