The library has now been converted into 2 temporary English classrooms and an IT resource area.
More information, including plans can be seen here: Expansion Page
Beginning and End of School Day
As a result of the expansion programme, parking is severely restricted at the school. This is particularly evident at the start and end of the school day when large numbers of staff and students are arriving and leaving the school premises at Summerfield Road. We have been speaking to students all week in assemblies regarding safety, and in particular have been asking all students riding bikes and scooters to follow the school policy of pushing their bikes until outside the school grounds. However, having monitored the situation this week at the end of the school day, we have now asked students to push school bikes/scooters until past the vehicular exits to the school car park, unless they are prepared to cycle on the road. It would also greatly help us manage this temporary situation if parents and carers could find alternatives to accessing the school car park when dropping off or picking up students. Thank you for your support in this matter and apologies for any inconvenience during this period.
Recognising Student Achievements at Dunbar Grammar School
At Dunbar Grammar School we recognise the importance of celebrating our students’ achievements both within and outside of school.
We’re looking to promote and celebrate the learning that takes place beyond the classroom and the skills and attributes that are developed as a result.
For this we need your help!
A new email address: firstname.lastname@example.org has been set up to allow students and parents/carers to share student achievements with us and to help inspire others.
Please let us know of any achievements that you feel should be shared within our school by emailing achievements, photographs etc. to email@example.com
Proofs and order forms for S1 and S4 photographs were handed out this week. Please return order forms to the office by Friday 10th November.
We will be offering poppies to students and staff from next week. All donations will be gratefully received and passed on to Poppy Scotland.
DGSC (Parent Council) Meetings
The draft minutes of the DGSC meeting held on 5th September can be read here: Minutes
The DGS Radio team have been busy recording live sessions over the past few months. They have created a monthly Live Lounge session within the school which encourages musical performances of all ages and types. They have also recorded the performances of the recent Belhaven Church concert. If you would like to listen to any of these recordings then please click on the following link to hear the results of all their hard work: https://soundcloud.com/dgsradio
Information Update (URGENT)
We still have several outstanding Seemis forms for each student, which are required to be checked by parent/carers, updated as appropriate, signed and returned.
Please return the Emergency Closure Form for your son/daughter if you do not wish them to be sent home in the case of the school being closed in an emergency. Please also see our Severe Weather Policy.
If you have no email address, it is essential that you inform the school. Where this is the case, we will provide a printout of this weekly information update to students on a Monday morning in their registration folder. A printout is only available to families who do not have access to email. The weekly email is automatically updated on our website.
School of Rugby Update
21 students from DGS took part in a ‘Start Coaching Rugby Course’ on Monday 23rd October. All students showed great maturity in delivering parts of sessions to their peers throughout the morning and will now look to help out at various events and sessions on the rugby calendar throughout the year. Well done to everyone who took part!
