Cursive Script at Dunbar Primary School

Don Ledingham, Executive Director of Education and Children’s Services for East Lothian Council and Director of Education and Children’s Services for Midlothian Council, visited Dunbar Primary School today to look at the success of the introduction of cursive script to the school nearly three years ago.  The evidence is very clear, the children through the school are more confident and willing to access writing by using cursive script. Presentation of work is exceptional and early evidence suggests that spelling has also improved.  Don met and spoke with pupils who had been taught cursive script and was astonished with the ability and standard of written work they are producing.

Trudy King and Lindsay Barley were interviewed by Don on the success of the programme.

A great deal of credit has to go to all the staff at Dunbar Primary School who have made this such a groundbreaking and successful programme.
