Olympic Torch Visit

As well as the Little People of the World event today we were honoured by a visit from Ken Reid. Ken took the torch through the streets of Musselburgh last week. Ken spoke to all the classes about his experiences and how he managed to run with the torch despite his blindness. He then visited the little peopleof the world and was treated to the Haka from some children in P3. Thank you Ken. Wonderful.

Little People of the World

Over the last few weeks all the classes at Dunbar Primary School have been researching a country that will participate in the London Olympics this year. As part of the theme Dunbar Parent Council have secured funding to make an art installation of figures who represent the Nations of the World. Over the last few weeks parents have been working with all classes and the results are truly superb.

Cursive Script at Dunbar Primary School

Don Ledingham, Executive Director of Education and Children’s Services for East Lothian Council and Director of Education and Children’s Services for Midlothian Council, visited Dunbar Primary School today to look at the success of the introduction of cursive script to the school nearly three years ago.  The evidence is very clear, the children through the school are more confident and willing to access writing by using cursive script. Presentation of work is exceptional and early evidence suggests that spelling has also improved.  Don met and spoke with pupils who had been taught cursive script and was astonished with the ability and standard of written work they are producing.

Trudy King and Lindsay Barley were interviewed by Don on the success of the programme.

A great deal of credit has to go to all the staff at Dunbar Primary School who have made this such a groundbreaking and successful programme.
