School Fair – Saturday 30 May between 12 and 4pm

The School Fair will be held on Saturday 30 May between 12 and 4pm.  This year we are raising money to buy a canopy to make the outdoor classroom at John Muir Campus accessible in all weathers.

There will be the usual school stalls where you can buy items your children have made along with a table top sale and watch out for more information on the Great DPS Baking Competition in next week’s email.

The Bouncy Castle Man will be there – it’ll cost £7 per wristband for a whole afternoon of fun.  There will be discounts for purchases of 3 wristbands or more.  There will be more information about this on the Parent Council website shortly.

In the meantime we are looking for donations of adult and children books and bottles of wine and tombola prizes – there will be more information on what to do with donations next Friday but in the meantime please have a look through your drawers and cupboards for any unwanted items that the Parent Council could use.

Do you, or your children, belong to a club? We are looking for teams of 6 – 8 to take part in our tug of war contest – we have some fabulous prizes on offer for the winning teams (both adult and child) so please have a chat with your friends/team mates and get ready to take the strain!

Many hands make light work and we can really use some help in the run up to the school fair and on the day – if you have a few hours to spare and would like to get involved with our team please contact Tracy Gillespie.

There will be more information about this exciting event next week.

Welcome to DPS Read-a-thon 2015! Read-a-thon is the only fundraiser run for the libraries at Dunbar Primary School. Without these funds we could not purchase new books, replace lost or damaged books, or outfit the rooms. It has been 3 years since the last Read-a-thon, so we are hoping for enthusiastic participation! We are aiming to raise over £5000! This year we are running the Read-a-thon in conjunction with Dunbar Reads Aloud, hoping that while raising money, students will also improve their reading skills!

Thank-you for participating!

Read-a-thon officially starts on Monday February 2nd at 8:45 am. Read-a-thon officially ends on Friday February 13th at 8:45 am.

Please see links below to further Read-a-thon 2015 information.

Good quality second hand toys and books

On Friday 5th December 2014 (9.00am – 12.00pm), parents from Dunbar Primary School nursery will be holding the annual nearly new toy and book sale to raise funds for nursery resources.  This is a fantastic event to raise money but is also a good opportunity for you to bag a bargain ahead of Christmas!  To make this event successful, we need your help.

Ways you can help:

  • Setting up after school on Thursday 4th December 2014
  • Volunteering to help at the toy & book sale on Friday 5th December 2014
  • Supplying mince pies for the refreshment stall
  • Helping clear up at the end of the sale
  • Donating good quality used toys and books (to be dropped off at John Muir Campus reception)
  • Attending the fair, grabbing a bargain and a coffee
  • Putting up posters and encouraging friends and family to come along too.

If you can help with setting up on Thursday 4th, helping at the sale on the 5th, clearing up afterwards or by providing mince pies, please pop your details on the sign up sheets outside each nursery classroom door or contact Jacqueline Preston by email on ‘’.  Even if you can only donate 30 minutes of your time, it would be a great help.
