Weekly Update

Dear Parents and Carers

Another busy week of learning in school.

P7 were visited by PC Amanda Johnston on Monday as part of their study of drugs awareness.

Miss Warrender and I met with Philippa Barber to plan P6 and P7 Cycle training. P7 will be completing Levels 1 and 2 and P6 Level 1. Today and on 1st Feb we are running a course to train parent volunteers to deliver the programme.

Our PE students from Edinburgh University have re-joined us and will be supporting all classes alongside Miss Gordon.

Today in assembly we are going to be looking at ways to celebrate the school values within our charter that families, staff and pupils have said are most important to them – more information to follow.

On Monday I represented the school at a meeting of The Melting Pot – a group of committed members of the East Linton community looking to make real difference to everyday life in terms of sustainability – please do get in touch with me if you are interested in being part of this.

Good luck if you are taking part in the Parent Council Quiz this evening!!

We had two Pupil Focus groups this week – one being Digital Detectives, auditing use of technology in school and another group assessing Health and Wellbeing in our school and community – our pupils are very confident taking part in discussion of this type – they always have amazing ideas!

This week our teaching and support staff took part in Restorative Practice training with Marie Prior our Family Support Worker and Laura Clark our Educational Psychologist. This was a really interesting session looking at restoring relationships between pupils after conflict and we were all struck by the many links with the Paul Dix approach to behaviour we are implementing this year of being Ready, Respectful and Safe.

Next weekend Dunbar Grammar are holding an Open Doors Day. I was lucky enough to have a tour of the new extension this week – it is amazing – a wonderful , bright, modern space for learning, so I would encourage you to drop in and have a look around.
