Primary 7 Home Learning 23rd March 2020

Good morning P7,

I have attached the timetable for the week below. Please remember that this is just a guide and tasks do not have to be done at the exact times on the timetable (other than Joe Wickes 9am workout Monday-Friday!) This is just to help you keep your week structured.

I will upload information for the day on Google Classroom so that you know what each task requires.

Please remember to send me pictures of what you are up to so that I can upload them to our P7 Home Learning slides.

Any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Week 6

P7 travel around the world in 7 weeks!!

Last week Ms Warrender visited Dunbar Grammar School to observe two maths and two English S1 classes in order to aid transition from primary school to secondary. The P7s were very surprised when Ms Warrender came back with some S1 fractions maths questions that they could solve already!

This week we completed our final Headstrong session with Maggie our school nurse. We shared our ‘happy boxes’ with the rest of the class, looking at the memories that we brought in.

Last week the P7s completed their home learning booklets on a country of their choice. Ms Warrender was amazed about the amount of time and effort that the children had put into their booklets. Well done P7!

P7 have completed their topic ‘Around the World in 7 Weeks!’ This week so have travelled to Antarctica and had a look at the different types of wildlife that live there. On Tuesday we had our international food festival, inviting the P7 parents and our P1 buddies in to sample our dishes we had made from countries around the world. Again, the P7s excelled themselves, producing delicious dishes to tempt the taste buds. Our bellies were definitely bulging afterwards! We managed to raise £60 from donations from parents that will go towards our P7 end of year party!

We completed reading our whole class novel, The Hobbit, and so have been watching The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey this week in class, comparing the similarities and differences between the book and the film.

This week we completed our stories, and produced our final drafts. We then created bunny Easter cards and decorated Easter eggs for our competition that will be judged tomorrow by Mrs Gardner.

Councillor Sue Kempson is coming in to assembly tomorrow to present us with our Level 1 certificates and then its off to church!

What a busy term for P7! We wish you all a very Happy Easter!

Catch up with P7

The first few pictures in the gallery are of our artwork that we have created in class – African sunsets and Molas from Central America. We’ve enjoyed adding pictures and work to our Around the World in 7 Weeks learning wall to share our learning journey.

Last week we visited Asia. We were lucky enough to have another of our P7 Granny’s join us to share their knowledge. This Granny had worked with a charity in Asia for 19 years, helping to build schools, wells and provide homeless children with supplies. She brought in lots of interesting items, clothes and pictures to share with us and we got to dress up in saris!

This week we are visiting Australia and learning about the Great Barrier Reef. We are continuing writing our stories in Literacy and adding and subtracting fractions in maths.

Our school nurse, Maggie has been visiting us as part of Headstrong, a series of 5 sessions surrounding mental health. We have decorated shoe boxes into ‘happy boxes’ where we are collecting things that provide happy memories. Sadly, our final session is next week.

This week we visited The Risk Factory as part of our previous topic ‘Risks to Health’. The children took part in 10 different scenarios, ranging from fire, to road safety to dangers around the home. This was very exciting!

Our P7s found out who had been selected for East Linton Gala day and were very excited to share this news and their certificates with the class.

Catch up with P7

P7 finished off visiting Africa with cracking open a coconut and trying some foods from Africa – lychees, bananas (fairtrade of course), coconut and watermelon.

Last week P7 visited South America and created Mola artwork (artwork to be shared soon!) This involved cutting and layering paper to produce different patterns.  We finished the week looking at foods from South America and tried mango, papaya (we read a story about a boy called Pele from Brazil who sold papayas), avocado and honeydew melon. The mango was definitely the favourite!

Last week was the P7 Spring Fling at Dunbar Primary. Everyone had a great night making new friends and dancing. We’re looking forward to the other transition events coming up.

This week P7 have moved on to fractions in maths. We went outside to create fraction walls using sticks.  We are visiting North America this week and have continued with our Mola artwork. We have began story writing in Literacy and the children have enjoyed creating their own characters for their stories. This Friday is our last session of Level 1 Bikeability before we begin Level 2 on the roads after the Easter Holidays.
