Our community police officer came in to visit P7 today as part of our topic, Risks to Health. She talked to us about drug awareness and answered our questions. The highlight definitely seemed to be getting put in the handcuffs!
This term as part of our Health and Wellbeing focus, P7 are learning about Risks to Health, with particular focus on drug and substance abuse. This week we have been discussing peer pressure and how to say no effectively. The children acted out different scenarios in regards to being pressurised to do things that they wouldn’t want to do, and to work on strategies to help them deal with these situations. We particularly enjoyed making props to aid our roleplay!
P5-P7 had their Christmas party on Wednesday at the community hall. We played corners, pass the parcel and musical statues as well as dancing the Gay Gordons and The Dashing White Sergeant. Everyone was in great spirits and had a fantastic time!
On Monday P7 went to visit the Scottish Parliament as part of our topic ‘Who Represents us?’ This consisted of a workshop exploring how the Parliament came about and a tour around the building. This we loved as we got to go into the committee room and sit in the chairs that Nicola Sturgeon sits in and use the microphones! We took part in a quiz and the adult group came first! (though were disqualified due to competitiveness sadly)
P7 had a great time last week at the Christmas fair. We have been hearing a lot recently in the news about reusing plastic so we decided to make our Christmas decorations out of plastic straws that we already had at home, rather than buying new resources in. We melted the plastic using an iron (Miss Warrender was in charge of this bit!) then we cut out Christmas shapes and punched a hole in the top to hang them up. We also made plastic straw star decorations just using cable ties and plastic straws! We enjoyed helping out with the other classes stalls!
This week P7 have completed their topic of WW1. On Friday, we invited our parents to join us for a WW1 street party to celebrate the end of WW1. We shared our newspapers that we had wrote about the end of the war, our propaganda posters and our soldier portraits. We decorated the classroom in a street party style and made bunting, banners and party hats. We brought in some food to complete our party and played WW1 style games with our parents. We then got our parents to try our WW1 quiz on the laptops. Some questions were a bit tricky!
