Week Commencing 22nd June 2020 – Primary 1

This week marks the end of the school year and, for Primary 1, this is a huge time for celebration. You have all grown so very much since you started school and have amazed me, your grown-ups and even yourselves at times.

I am so very proud of each and every one of you so, for this week we have something very special planned!

Unfortunately we cannot go on a class trip to mark the end of the year, but the virtual world will allow us to go somewhere we could never manage to do for real in school. So, this week, we are off to Orlando, Florida to explore the world of Disney!

Every day there will be new and exciting ways to learn through the adventures that the theme park offers. I do hope you are as excited as me to be taking part in this adventure together.

This slideshow will guide you through the virtual trip to Disneyland and the week’s activities rather than a timetable. And, for a little extra fun, Miss McKay has created a National Picnic Week activity grid which ties in beautifully.

Primary 1. Week Commencing 15.6.20

Well here we are with only 2 more weeks left of Primary 1!

Wow, this year has just flown by and my, how you have grown.  As a very special treat, this week is all about choice. Each day there is a new book with lots of ideas to help you learn through.

There’s always your reading to do too, and don’t forget your PE, French and Music lessons.

This week is also National Neighbours Week so, there’s lots and lots for you to get stuck in with this week – and if the weather remains as it’s been over the weekend, you might just be thankful for it 🙂

Primary 1 – Week Commencing 8th June 2020

Welcome back to another new week here in our virtual classroom, and what a busy week it’s looking like. Don’t be put off by the amount of things I’m about to list, as ever they are here as options for you to explore and choose from as you wish without any expectation that you complete everything.
This week sees our IDL continues with the story of ‘My friend the weather monster’ where a lot of the learning is based around rain.  If you feel like finding out more about rain, why not pop along to this
fantastic website  where there are some really cool facts and links to some fun learning ideas. Be sure to post pictures and tell your class about what you find out.
To add to the watery theme, this Monday will see people across the world celebrating ‘World Oceans Day’. I’ve put together some ideas for things you might like to explore here.
If you fancy using your artistic or creative talents or even trying to learn a new skill in the artistic field, then this is the week for you. It’s another ELPS theme week and this time it’s ‘Art Week’. This activity grid might give you a few ideas to explore, or why not explore art in your own way. Make sure to share whatever you create with your friends on our classroom stream too.
As ever, all your usual lessons will be there for you to have a look at, but whatever you choose to do and however you choose to learn this week, make it worthwhile and enjoy it!

Primary 1 – Week Commencing 1st June

I can’t believe it’s June already and there are only 4 weeks left of this school year! Where has the time gone? You have all grown so much, physically and in your learning capacities. Let’s make the most of these last few weeks in P1.

For the next couple of weeks our learning will be centred on the story of ‘My friend the weather monster’. Once again, I have had great fun planning the lessons to accompany this story and really hope you will have just as much, if not more fun using them to explore your learning.

Monday is a very special day where we celebrate and thank our grown-ups for all the things they do for us.  Being a parent is tricky at the best of times, but recently, when many of our grown- ups have had to juggle so many different things as well as help us with our learning, I think we have an even bigger thank you to say to them. So, along with our timetable for the week, I have also attached some suggested activities that you might like to have a look at to give you some inspiration for things you might be able to do to show your grown-ups just how much you love them and to thank them for all that they do.

Once again, please find attached the suggested learning activities for the coming week.

Whilst I have uploaded the usual range of curricular based lessons, there is also the opportunity to make the most of National Chidlren’s Gardening Week by clicking here to visit and explore amazing website created by Mrs Pentony.

Enjoy the choices and challenges, but remember to please, put your health and wellbeing first.

P1 Timetable Week Commencing 25th May

Week Commencing 18.5.20 Primary 1

Hello everyone and welcome again to another week of distance learning.  I don’t know about you, but I’m absolutely buzzing with pride and enthusiasm from all your amazing learning last week and, with never a dull moment in Primary 1, I am sure you will continue to impress me as this week goes on.

So, you will see from the attached timetable that our learning this week steps away from toys and moves into the territory of a certain character who I believe is well known for having knobbly knees and turned out toes and there could even be a poisonous wart at the end of his nose!

I’ve had great fun pulling together the learning activities based on this much loved story and I hope you enjoy participating in them. Don’t forget though that they are there to support you, IF you want them, during this time when we are out of school.

Further to my lesson suggestions, there is lots more going on this week across the school.  Don’t forget that Mrs Mailor has her music classroom set up with lessons for P1 on a Wednesday, and on top of this we are now lucky enough to have Dave Trouton from the Youth Music Initiative with his weekly ‘Music and Me‘ sessions. Miss Gordon‘s classroom also has weekly PE lessons and this week sees her begin to set us weekly challenges to get us ready for our virtual sports day, so please remember to pop by and see how far you can challenge yourself.

Finally, this Thursday sees the return of Outdoor Classroom Day so there are lots of activities for you to choose from to help you make the most of the great outdoors and all it has to offer to support your learning.

Wow, what a lot we have going on. Pick and choose what suits you and when it’s right for you to do it.  All my lessons are uploaded at the start of the school week so you can scroll through the week and make your own timetable.

Primary 1 – Week Commencing 18th May

Primary One W/C 11th May 2020

Hello and welcome back to a new week of learning.

This week sees our school take part in our annual celebrations and explorations of the ‘World of Work‘ ‘National Numeracy Day‘. On top of our regular activities, you can find some links to additional challenges that you might like to take part in – I wonder in which direction you will take your learning this week?!

Our learning hero focus is on resilience. I know that many of you have been showing these powers during our time in lockdown and it has been an ideal opportunity for you to develop these life skills in lots of different ways – don’t forget to share with us what you have been doing this week that shows you at your best, whether it be demonstrating your resilience or any other of your learning hero powers.

Attached, as ever, is our timetable for the week with lots of suggestions for learning and developing your knowledge and skills. Last week saw many of you really engaging in our IDL and I’m super excited to see where this might take you this week.

Week Commencing 11th May

Primary 1 – Week Commencing 4th May 2020

It may only be a short school week for us but in Primary 1 that’s not going to stop us getting our teeth stuck in to some amazing learning.   This week we have a big focus on science and technologies to help us explore our interdisciplinary learning where you will become researchers, experimenters and designers – not to mention great thinkers!

As we commemorate VE Day 75, you might  want to have a look at some of the additional activities that are available for you to explore what VE Day is all about.

I know that many of you at the moment are really feeling the strain of not being able to see your friends or come to school.  In these challenging times, please remember that your health and wellbeing, and that of your family members, is what must come first and foremost.  If you’re needing a day just to snuggle up with your grown-up or quietly doodle on your own, then do just that.  The learning activities that are in your classroom are there to support you IF you need them. Please do not worry about not completing all of them.  You need to do what is right for you, when it is right for you.

I, and all the other staff at ELPS, are here to help you in whatever way we can. If you need to ask a question, if you need help with your learning, or if you just need to talk to someone outside your household, then please do get in touch.

Week Commencing 27th April 2020

Welcome back to week 2 of Term 4.  I can’t believe how fast the time is flying!

This week sees us begin our new interdisciplinary learning about toys.  Thank you so much to everyone for sending me your ideas so we could collaborate on the planning and, as coincidence would have it, that has set us off to a good start with this week’s Learning Hero! I wonder what other collaborative things you’ll get up to this week.

In response to many, I have uploaded all the suggested activities for this week into a dated folder.  For those who would rather have the information daily, I will re-post these lessons each morning.  Please find our suggested timetable for the week ahead attached but do remember that this is there to support and not restrain you.

Welcome back Primary 1.
