This week we started our new topic on Bridges. We began by exploring shapes and investigating which shapes are the best for supporting heavy loads and whether two shapes are better than one.
This was our last week of football coaching with Lorna from the Sports Development team. Unfortunately the really wet weather on Wednesday meant that we couldn’t use the field to play. We were able to move the session indoors where we had the opportunity to put all of the skills we have been learning into good use during mini-football matches. The coaching sessions have been fantastic and everyone has had the opportunity to develop their skills with the football as well as to have a taster of what playing football involves. Lorna has helped us identify our next steps and we are looking forward to continuing to develop our skills in our PE lessons.
On Tuesday P3 visited East Linton Library where Heather, the librarian, shared two stories with the class. We really liked the one written by Mo Farah about running.
This week we were able to get outside for our football coaching with the Sports Development Officer. It was a great session with lots of opportunities for everyone to develop the skills from the first session two weeks ago. We were also shown and got to work on learning some new ways of controlling the ball. Team work skills were very important this week and a lot of the activities focussed on working together to achieve a goal.
We had a fantastic class trip to the National Museum of Scotland where we took part in a workshop about Death in Ancient Egypt. Highlights were Peter, Mhairi and Nicole playing the part of the Egyptian god, Ammit, with her head of a crocodile and her body of a lioness and a hippo! We got to see and handle some artefacts from Ancient Egypt. Some of these were extremely old and had actually been wrapped up inside a mummy’s bandages. Tina, from the museum, gave us a really interesting and dramatic talk about the customs around death in Ancient Egypt and there were lots of opportunities for us to take part and to share our knowledge. Miss Ross and Mrs Peck were very proud of the class and how well they knew their topic! We arrived early at the museum and enjoyed having time to have a look at some of the other exhibitions before the workshop started. A really successful day.
Primary 3 enjoyed a workshop led by Marie this week with a focus on jobs in and related to the construction industry. There were lots of tasks to try out where we got to think about the role of architects, engineers, builders and quantity surveyors. We had puzzles to solve and we used our problem solving strategies, our skills in role play, our knowledge of measure and our ability to estimate to make decisions about what needed to be done and how.
This week Primary 3 began a four week football course with the Sports Development Officer. The first lesson gave the class a chance to focus on the skills of dribbling with the ball, controlling the ball while moving in different directions and stopping the ball with different parts of our feet. We also played small team games to practise working together. It was a fantastic lesson and we are looking forward to developing our skills further next week.
In P3 we have been using drama in Health and Well-Being this week to explore different ways to deal with loneliness in the playground. Primary 3 have come up with brilliant ideas both for helping people who are feeling lonely and left out as well as ways to help yourself if you are feeling lonely or left out. Each small group has created and acted out a scene showing a playground situation where someone feels left out. The groups have then used their acting skills to show us all how the problem could be solved so that everyone feels included. Super creativity, problem-solving and fantastic acting!
A busy afternoon in Primary 3 working in groups to research and make posters about life in Ancient Egypt. Fantastic team work with everybody involved in finding out more about hieroglyphics, the River Nile, the process of mummification, early farming and Ancient Egyptian gods and goddesses.
