Well done to our Roald Dahl Day competition winners – you really came up with some amazing places to read a wonderful book by Roald Dahl!
MONEY SENSE FRAUD WORKSHOP
Alastair from the Royal Bank of Scotland came into our class to talk about Money Sense. We had to solve a problem that happened to the character Caitlin Bailey. We had to solve the mystery because she had her identity stolen and a loan was taken out in her name but she knew nothing about it till the bank demanded payment. We worked in groups of 4. Then once we had thought we had solved it we made a news report to say what happened in our groups. We discovered there were lots of ways your identity details could be stolen. See videos above.
MUSEUM OF FLIGHT VISIT
This week we had Ross from the Museum of Flight in to talk to us. We did some experiments and chatted about flight and different types of planes. It was very cool! See pics below. We did some rocket launches with cones. We did some helicopter things. And we made paper aeroplanes.
NEW FRENCH TEACHER
2 weeks ago we got a new French teacher called Madame Ballantyne. Right now we are being taught the L’alphabet (Alphabet) we are also being taught how to count and say our names in French.
NEW CLASS NOVEL
In class we have started our new class novel called The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S.Lewis. We are about halfway through the book and it looks like most people are enjoying it.
BASKETBALL NEWSPAPER TOWER
This week we have been doing newspaper tower as part of our new topic, Inventors and Inventions. Each week we have a design challenge to complete using our STEM skills. The first one we did was making a newspaper basketball tower. It had to stand up on its own and be able to hold a basketball on it for 30 seconds. Some were unusual, some didn’t work but everybody had fun and worked well together. They were in teams of 3 or 4. Look at pictures below.
This week The Rotary Purple Pinkie came in. We had to dip our pinkie in ink and press it down on the world map where we think there is a country that no longer have any cases of polio.
WINTER OLYMPIC PICTURES
A few weeks ago we did pictures that were for the winter Olympics. First, we painted the background and then put on fake snow if we wanted to, we then let them dry. While they were drying we coloured in a figure skater, downhill skier or ski jumper but some of us made our own figures.
WORLD BOOK DAY
On Friday we had our World Book day after the delay of the snow. We had a competition for the most unusual place to read. Findlay won, he was reading in a skip. He won a handmade wooden Harry Potter wand. This was only for P6. See pics below.
We also traced and decorated our favourite books covers. We put them on the door. There were some the same and some different. They were all very good.
Mrs Pentony put up our own special lending library just for our class. So you put your name on a sheet and you have to write when you took it out and when you returned it. Then you could write if you wanted it after someone or recommend it to someone who may like to read it.
Further updates soon – please leave us a comment, thanks.

P6 were delighted last week to use all the French they have been learning so far to write to their penfriends in our link school in Combs-la-Ville. Here are some photos of our cards. Un grand bonjour à tous!
P6 have all enjoyed singing this song to learn the colours in French. Un grand bravo à tous et à toutes!
We were very excited to get letters from our French pen friends in Combs La Ville near Paris. (You can have a look at their website too) Un grand merci! Here are some photos of us writing our letters back to them – great opportunity for us to practise our written French! A très bientôt!
