P4 have been learning about the depth of the ocean as part of our Great Barrier Reef project. We have been learning about the different layers of the ocean and some of the amazing creatures that live there. We created the ocean layers in a jar – see Google classroom if you want to try this at home – it can be a bit messy!
We have also been learning about how fish defend themselves against their predators. Fish have a variety of ways to fool their enemies, such as black eye, camouflage, moving in schools and poisonous stingers! We created our own beautiful fish to add to our growing barrier reef.
Morning all P4 parents and pupils
I have attached a timetable for our week , I have tried to keep it as much like our normal week as possible but obviously some resources are not able to be put online so there will have to be a degree of flexibility. The resources for the lessons will be available in our google classroom. You do not have to follow the timetable directly but doing the tasks will help give your day some structure.
I will upload other activities which you may enjoy doing and will allow you time away from a screen, these will be design/art based, check google classroom for these.
Our learning heroes will still be running and this week it is independence so I will be looking out for that during the week. That said, I am here for you if you need any help or need questions answered.
Please be patient as I am currently on a huge learning curve myself getting used to google classroom and new ways of teaching and learning.
P3 have been outdoors again – the weather was not so good this time, very damp and misty so we had to finish our lesson indoors.
We were looking for different types of rocks – we didn’t think we would find many in the school grounds but to our surprise there were loads. We then spent time sorting our rocks into different categories, size, shape, colour etc. We then used them to make some rock structures.
P3 took their learning outdoors this afternoon, what a gorgeous day to be outside. Phoenix picked a card from our outdoor learning bowl, our activity today was called invent-a-nature. We had to pick up different pieces of nature and think about what other ways they could be used. We worked in pairs and groups and collected lots of interesting natural materials. We then got to inventing, we had lots of different constructions going on, including a step ladder for the birds so they could enter a safe area away from any predators, a fairy house and a top notch 5 star bug hotel. We also seen some sparrows who were very busy in the bird boxes just outside our classroom, we think they may have chicks so we shall be keeping a close eye on them.
Last week P7 were set a design challenge using the play pod equipment. They had to create something, using three or more different objects, with at least one other person and the purpose was to be that the object was not originally designed for. We had daleks, horse and carriages, ping pong tables, dens, cars and sumo rings.
At our staff session on Tuesday we looked at Planning for Assessment – sharing our good practice and supporting each other
P4 and P7 joined together this afternoon to share their learning experiences in ICT. P7 taught P4 how to use P7 which is a quiz website and P4 taught how to do coding using the microbits. It was great to see the children working together and sharing their knowledge.
Bit of a catch up going on here but “recently” we were very lucky to be invited down to our East Linton Library as part of Book Week Scotland, where we met Heather and the Team and received our P1 Book Bug goodie bags.
While we were there we learned about the library and how it works as well as getting a few stories read to us and a bit of a sing song!
A lovely day and we hope the first of many visits to our lovely library!
Since then we have shared the stories in class and had discussions surrounding them, as well as listening to the authors read them online. We voted for our favourite and One Button Benny was clear winner across P1.
