This term!

term 4 plan

Here is our plan for this term to keep our learning current, active and fun – look out for the learning grids coming for each one!!

P4 home learning

Morning all P4 parents and pupils

I have attached a timetable for our week , I have tried to keep it as much like our normal week as possible but obviously some resources are not able to be put online so there will have to be a degree of flexibility.   The resources for the lessons will be available in our google classroom.  You do not have to follow the timetable directly but doing the tasks will help  give your day some structure.

I will upload other activities which you may enjoy doing and will allow you time away from a screen, these will be design/art based, check google classroom for these.

Our learning heroes will still be running and this week it is independence so I will be looking out for that during the week.  That said, I am here for you if you need any help or need questions answered.

Please be patient as I am currently on a huge learning curve myself getting used to google classroom and new ways of teaching and learning.

Emergency Provision for Keyworkers Update

STATEMENT REGARDING ESSENTIAL CHILDCARE
CORONAVIRUS 19 – LATEST UPDATE FROM THE FIRST MINISTER
The First Minister has just reiterated that following the closure of schools, childcare being established in each local authority is emergency provision for frontline keyworkers where there is no-one else in the house to look after your child and no other alternative. East Lothian will be opening a small number of Children’s Hubs but we need to ensure that those parents who really need a place get it. Please help us and don’t apply for a place unless it is absolutely essential. We are required to keep numbers in the hubs to an absolute minimum and will be prioritising Category 1 keyworkers in the first instance.

World Book Day in P4

What a fantastic effort P4 made for World Book Day this year.  Well done everyone on your fabulous A-Z activities.  We had decorated eggs and cakes, puppets of characters, hand made board games, drawings of front covers and favourite characters and lots of sharing of books and stories which are precious to us.   In class we had a character description quiz which really tested the memories of books we read when we were much younger and we had a comprehension scavenger hunt to find our information about the history of World Book Day.  This raised the question of who was the greatest writer Shakespeare or David Williams?   It was such a lovely afternoon we even managed to get outdoors for a read.  More days like this please!

Watercolour techniques in P4

P4 have been developing their painting skills this time by using watercolours.  We learnt different watercolour techniques using salt, tissue, sandpaper, clingfilm, crayon and alcohol.  We have linked our learning with watercolours to our geography work by painting the continents and oceans.

Pancakes in P4

Thanks to Michelle Aitken for coming in and making pancakes with P4,  so many lovely toppings and fillings, they were just delicious and enjoyed by everyone.

Emotional Literacy in P4

P4 have been developing their emotional literacy.  We have been sharing what makes us happy, sad, angry and scared.  We have also been thinking about ways of making ourselves feel better when we are sad, angry or scared.  We created emotional characters to represent our emotions and the things which affect them.  We created some drama scenarios to show different situations which can create strong emotions and strategies to manage them.  So proud of P4 who showed great maturity when discussing their emotions.

Varjak Paw in P4

We finished reading our class novel Varjak Paw and we were so impressed with the story we contacted the author to let him know how much we loved it and this was his response.

Human body in P4

We have been continuing with our learning about the amazing human body in P4.  We have been playing a skeleton game to try to get ourselves more familiar with all our bones.  We tried to work out where all our organs go in our bodies, we found this quite tricky so we made anatomy t-shirts to help us.  We have also been learning about the different zones in our brain and how they control our bodies.  We have been learning about our different emotions and how our brain can influence them.  We learnt about how our emotional brain can override  our logical/reasoning brain and lead to us flip our lids!

Varjak Paw in P4

Our class novel in P4 at the moment is Varjak Paw by S F Said one of the reading skills we have been practising is summarising.  Every

time we read some of the story we try to summarise it making each summary shorter but ensuring we include the main points.  We are getting really good at this.  We have put our summaries up on display so we can recap what last happened and it’s really helpful if someone misses part of the book they can quickly catch up on the story.
