RSPB big bird watch in P4

P4 have taken part in the RSPB bird watch again this year.  We spent some time outside recording the number of different birds we could see, we used binoculars to get a better view of them.  We also noticed that there is not a lot of food around for the birds at the moment so we made some feeders for them too.  We have been learning about all different kinds of birds by playing bird bingo.

Watch out for Hamish the Hairy Haggis?

As part of our learning around Burn’s Day P4 have been reading about Hamish the Hairy Haggis and have created our own Haggis creatures.  We have also been reading The Broon’s, learning some Scottish words and reciting some funny Scottish poems which we shared at our Scottish assembly.  Well done P4 – great work!

Poignant paintings in P4

P4 have been learning about climate change and the Australian Bush fire disaster, we created mixed media artwork showing the impact on people, wildlife and the environment.

Every day is a learning day!

Every day is a learning day! We had a busy staff development session this week.

Mrs McDonald led us all as we looked at how French and German are being taught in school – we looked at the feedback from our pupils too and all the teachers made a plan for their class!

Working together, we looked at how we plan for learning and teaching. We shared good ideas and asked questions of each other to improve experiences for our learners. We used the Connect, Extend,Challenge thinking routine.

We used Chalk Talk to explore the ELC Pedagogy Placemats – we asked ourselves how do they match our practice and ethos in school? What can we learn from them?

Thinking skills in P4

P4 started the new year with a thinking skills task this morning and created some very impressive creatures.  The task was to design a new animal or combine two existing animals to make one new creature.  They drew some excellent pictures of their new creations and provided lots of details about them.

Busy last week in P4

We have been busy in our final week of 2019 in P4.  We made some lovely Christmas crafts, 1 paper plate made a wreath and a curly Santa, we decorated biscuits so they looked like melting snowmen, we used chalk pastels to create some unusual but beautiful reindeers and we enjoyed a snowman shake with P5.  Think we are ready for our holidays!

Update from P4

We have been busy in P4 we have been learning about the techniques of persuasive writing.  We used our new powers of persuasion in a class debate, we have also been looking at adverts and created some of our own and we have been writing persuasive letters – these will be coming home shortly so look out for them.

We have also been writing imaginative stories and have made them into books which we are going to share with the younger children in school.  We have spent time working on our vocab skills by learning how to use a thesaurus and we then made our own to have in our trays whenever we might need them to up level our writing.
