If you follow East Lothian Works on Twitter and Facebook (links at the bottom of this post), you may have seen that we are currently running a social media campaign that focuses on a different Foundation Apprenticeship each week. This week, we’re looking at the Business Skills course. Have a read below to find out more about this framework.
The Foundation Apprenticeship in Business Skills gives students the chance to experience life in a business. They will learn about business priorities, such as IT software, managing people and finance and contemporary business issues. Students gain an understanding of the processes required to succeed in business, while developing skills such as IT, problem solving, and team working. Working in business allows individuals to increase their confidence in their abilities, gaining transferrable skills they can take across all industries.
When asked what the best part of the job is, Katie, an IT Officer, stated: “working as part of a team of people…I am constantly learning new things, which I find challenging and rewarding”.
When it comes to desired skills, students require good customer service skills, patience, and a good knowledge of the industry.
Our new cohort of 2019-2020 Foundation Apprenticeship students begin after the summer holidays. Applications for the 2020-2021 cohort open around the New Year. Email vocationalopps@eastlothian.gov.uk with any questions. If you’d like more information about Foundation Apprenticeships, check out our blog post on them here.
