Singers Needed for Community Opera

Do you enjoy singing? Acting? Putting on a show?

Or know someone who does?

The Lammermuir Festival returns to East Lothian this spring and is looking for singers and actors to join our new community musical, Catriona and the Dragon. Join us now and perform alongside three of Scotland’s top professional singers, a huge orchestra of professional players and musicians from East Lothian schools, with conductor Sian Edwards, director Laura Attridge and chorus director Moira Morrison.

The storyline

Queen Catriona is the reluctant ruler of the Kingdom of Beagland, terrorised by a fearsome dragon who lives beyond the Bridge to Nowhere. Will Catriona find the courage to go over the Bridge to confront her worse fears and to fight the dragon? Can she persuade her people to change their ways?

How to get involved?

To join our Children’s Chorus and help Catriona conquer the Dragon living beyond the Bridge to Nowhere and who is terrorising the land, register HERE

The Gatherings with Ali Burns

Renowned song writer, director and workshop leader for ommunity choirs, Ali Burns, is delighted to be back in East Linton Community Hall again for this month’s The Gatherings. You can look forward to a morning of easy harmony singing, great company, coffee and cake.

NYCoS Recruiting Pianists

The National Youth Choir of Scotland (NYCoS) is currently recruiting accompanists for their partnership project with East Lothian Council’s Arts Service and Youth Music Initiative (YMI).

The project will run for 10 weeks from w/b 27 Feb until the end of May ( term time only)

These 2 hour after school singing sessions deliver to pupils across an age range P3-P7 and last for 2 hours each week (4-6pm). Available posts are:

Mondays in Prestonpans, Tuesdays in Dunbar and Wednesdays in North Berwick.

Some song leader experience would be fantastic but not essential.

3 Harbours Arts Festival at Risk

Cockenzie – Port Seton – Prestonpans

3 Harbours Arts Festival is urgently seeking volunteers to help run their community arts festival.

Historically 3HAF has been an open house and exhibition venue festival with live music and community activities.

For 2023 the festival requires volunteers and committee members for planning and delivering the event. Without sufficient volunteers, the festival cannot go ahead.

Sound Sense Conference 2023

Training the Community Musician (TTCM) 2023 is a two-day event delivered by Sound Sense in partnership with the University of Aberdeen. This year it will be hosted by Sage Gateshead.

As in previous years, TTCM 2023 will embrace an ethos of provocation and inclusivity. They’ll be asking Where are we now? What comes next? with respect to training and developing community music practitioners.

Edinburgh College Academies

Edinburgh College is excited to announce that it will be setting up a new range of academies in music, sound production, film and television. These are very flexible and a great way to formalise an arrangement which they can then tailor to individual programme needs. They are designed to enrich and add value to the activities students are currently undertaking in Creative Media, Music or Music Tech, provide opportunities for their staff to come and deliver a bespoke workshop at your school/centre, and for your students to come and perform, workshop and exhibit their work at one of their campus in June.

The benefits of these academies will be:

  • Provides students with knowledge and understanding of working on college level qualifications,
  • consolidates current learning
  • Prepares students who may wish to progress to full time media, music or sound production courses
  • Excellent experience for college and university applications
  • Introduction to the qualification with ECMS/ECTV staff
  • Invitation to perform, showcase and workshop work at Edinburgh College (Cre:8 at Milton Road, or The Music Box at Sighthill)
  • Sharing work and skills with other students with similar interests

Following a workshop in your school or centre in January/February 23 they will provide access to resources that allow for students to achieve the award using evidence already generated as part of their current curriculum/programme. In June they will invite groups of schools/centres in together for a collective performance/workshop/showcase.

The flexibility of the Academies serves as a great platform to connect with the college in a meaningful way and they are happy to explore other activities to support your students experience, in the development of their creative specialism and onto further and higher levels of study.
