Last week Haddington and Gifford Open Duke of Edinburgh Group completed their Gold qualifying expedition. The group started from Glen Doll and travelled over Jock’s Road , round by Braemar and Derry Lodge then finally up the Larig Grui to Aveimore.
All agreed it was their favourite expedition with mostly great weather; the one really wet day we had the cosy sanctuary of Bob Scott’s Bothy at Derry Lodge to dry off in.
It’s been a pleasure working with this group, seeing them progress from ‘rookie’ Bronze expeditioners to Gold. Their last day was a hefty 25kms of the Larig Grui through some great scenery; they completed this with high spirits and lots of confidence.
Thanks to Caroline McGregor for helping with the remote supervision, and Dave Habgood for being ‘bad-cop’ assessor. A special thanks again to Kim White for having taken this group all the way from Bronze to Gold – and all the best with the next ‘cohort’.
