Good as Gold

Last week Haddington and Gifford Open Duke of Edinburgh Group completed their Gold qualifying expedition. The group started from Glen Doll and travelled over Jock’s Road , round by Braemar and Derry Lodge then finally up the Larig Grui to Aveimore.

All agreed it was their favourite expedition with mostly great weather; the one really wet day we had the cosy sanctuary of Bob Scott’s Bothy at Derry Lodge to dry off in.

It’s been a pleasure working with this group, seeing them progress from ‘rookie’ Bronze expeditioners to Gold. Their last day was a hefty 25kms of the Larig Grui through some great scenery; they completed this with high spirits and lots of confidence.

Thanks to Caroline McGregor for helping with the remote supervision, and Dave Habgood for being ‘bad-cop’ assessor. A special thanks again to Kim White for having taken this group all the way from Bronze to Gold – and all the best with the next ‘cohort’.

And do take a look at the following video produced by the group, who’s expedition ‘aim’ was to produce an instructional video; ‘DofE for Dummies’

Great video team. I particularly like the demo of using a compass.
