Bairns (and their families!) in the Woods

The first Bairns in the Woods session happened at Prestonpans Infant School. Six family groups have started a series of Bushcraft afternoons working together in the outdoors . After sorting wellies and waterproofs, the families erected a huge Teepee which became the base for the afternoon. Then it was down to business designing and building a Teddy shelter , which was tried and tested , before full scale shelters were built. Families worked together, and produced fantastic shelters which were then trialled with drinks and biscuits inside . The afternoon passed all too quickly but the families ( and teddies!) are looking forward to some fire lighting next week.image (5) image (6) image (7) image (8) image (10) image (11) image (13) image (15)

  1. Many thanks to you Ang! Also to all the team at Outdoor Learning for all the advise on getting set up. The idea came from our Head Teacher Sheila Laing and a conversion had between her and another teacher. It just so happens the aims of community development were something ODL were planning on engaging in a deeper way. I was only too pleased to be involved. The children and families are really enjoying all the sessions and trying out something new. Each week is a new adventure and everyone gets totally involved with the challenges. It was lovely to hear that one family are going on their own woodland trip this weekend. The children are calling our sessions den club!
