Tuesday and Wednesday of this week has seen the P5 pupils from Longniddry Primary School getting to grips with rock-climbing at the Tranent Climbing Wall; one of East Lothian’s best kept climbing secrets.
The pupils learnt different climbing techniques, how to tie onto the rope, how to belay and above all how to work well how together and trust their partners.
But it wasn’t all just a physical session. One activity that combined both their bouldering abillity and their literacy skills required them to write and draw whilst climbing. This really focussed the climber on selecting the right holds needed to be in-balance, while their partners needed to provide lots of encouragement – and the next colour of pen.
And BTW one of the pupils has not written his name ( ‘James Watt’ ) … that’s a link back to their current class project – ‘Great Scottish Inventors’ :-).
