S6s are challenged in the fog

Friday’s S6 Outdoor Education Challenge was held at Yellowcraigs in freezing fog.   Teams from North Berwick, PL, Ross High and Knox had to navigated their way around the beach and woods; competing against each other on a number of problem solving tasks such as building a tower (pictured), fire-lighting, orienteering and blind-fold archery.

Highlights included North Berwck demonstrating some fine initiative; using their lip-balm to help with the fire-lighting task in very damp condition.   A team from Ross High was was one of the few who successfully completed the Crack-the-Code task – and managed to keep their socks dry!  The teams from PL were competing under high pressure; hoping to continue the clean sweep that PL  have had in the previous four events.

In the end though a Team from Knox were victorious – managing to win the all-important final task; constructing a catapult and lobbing a tennis call further than any of the other teams.

The next, and final, secondary school challenge event is the S2 and will be held on the 10th of February at the John Muir Park

S6 Challenge – reminder!

A reminder that the S6 Challenge will be held at Yellowcraigs next Friday – December 11th.

Mini-buses should arrive at Yellowcraigs car-park for 10:00am. After the excellent turnouts for the previous challenges it would be great to see all East Lothian Secondary schools represented … and if PL are to claim the 09/10 grand-slam then it’ll be all the better for them to have triumphed over all schools!
