P1/2 and P6/7 Shared Reading

Shared reading is a great way for older and younger pupils to share and discover books together. This involved the older P6/7 pupils  reading picture books out loud to their  P1/2 buddies.  They have met each week to share the reading of one of the three books that are shortlisted the Scottish Book Trust awards. Next week we read our final book. Then all the pupils will vote for their favourite book. Our votes will be collated and sent off to the Scottish Book Trust.

Halloween Fun Friday

The morning started off with our whole school Halloween parade in the hall. The Halloween costumes were wonderful and very creative and Mrs Small and Mrs Berry had the difficult task of choosing a winner from each class.

 Halloween Fun Friday! on PhotoPeach

P6/7 and P1/2 had a joint Halloween buddying fun with duiking for apples, Halloween memory challenge, some dancing and some Halloween art. P3/4 were at gym so they enjoyed their Halloween fun afterwards.

Elphinstone Primary visits the Zoo

Thanks to Alan Russell and Wiseman-Muller, we had a free whole school excursion to the zoo. This included the coach and a visit to see the pandas. Although it rained for most of the day, it didn’t dampen our spirits and we had a great day!

Harvest Assembly

We had an excellent turnout for our annual Elphinstone Harvest Assembly. The children took part in singing Harvest songs, reciting food poems, acting out ‘The Enormous Turnip’ and sharing their learning on harvesting around the world, and how natural disasters can affect this.  Thank you to parents and carers who donated plenty of food. The P6/7 packed these and delivered them to people in our community.

Wake Up, Shake Up….it’s Elphinstone Health Week!

Elphinstone Health Week kicked off with a whole school fitness session led by Mrs Berry’s daughter, Steph. The staff, nursery and P1-7 pupils all took part in the half hour morning workout and Steph certainly put us through a non-stop ‘Wake Up, Shake Up’ routine! There were some very pink faces by the end!

Green Cross Code Assembly

P6/7 were challenged by the JRSO team to present the Green Cross Code as a rap, song or rhyme. They worked in cooperative teams and did an amazing job! Their group presentations were shown at assembly this week and the school voted on which one they wanted as their school Green Cross Code rap. Each pupil showed their vote by placing a marble into a group’s tub.

IMG_4265  The marbles were counted and it was a close result between all the teams.  The winning team was ‘Road Safety Squad’. Well done!
