Supporting literacy at home – ideas for parents and carers We are delighted to let you know about some exciting new materials on Parentzone, which have been produced by Education Scotland and Scottish Book Trust, to support children’s reading development and enthusiasm for reading.

There are many ways that parents and carers can build reading activities into everyday routines to support their child’s literacy skills.

These new materials, consisting of five videos from early years to secondary, have tips and advice for reading with young children, as well as ideas for encouraging teenagers to read for pleasure.

For more information, or to give us your feedback on how useful you find these materials, please email parentzone@educationscotland.gov.uk.

Tri-schools Sports Day

Primary 4 and Primary 5 had a fantastic day on Tuesday braving the tremendous heat to run, throw and jump their way to victory…. and they were greatly supported from the rest of their teammates and their amazing banner! Our lovely art specialist Morag and the class spent ages working on creating the world’s best class banner to cheer on our team and we were not the only ones who thought it was amazing because WE WON THE BEST BANNER COMPETITION! We may be a small school but we are not ones to be missed or forgotten. Congratulations everyone on creating the banner and winning us new sports equipment for the school! We will have the banner out on display at tomorrow’s trim trail launch for you all to see!IMG_3042

Transition Day!

We all had a super day moving onwards and upwards into our new classes today! Everybody seemed very happy and had a great time! A big thank you to all the pre-school parents and carers who turned up today to find out more about their child becoming a P1 and having lunch with us! To top it all off and make the day even more fantastic, we had Kakatsitsi Drummers from Ghana in to do a drumming performance and workshop with P5-7! Have a look at the pictures and videos below!

P1/2 and P6/7 share their work

We all had a great time today when the P6/7s joined the P1/2 class for milk and a story today! Afterwards we got out our Learning Stories, reading books and writing jotters to show each other what we have been learning about in our different classes. Everyone was fab and worked so well together – Miss Edmunds was very proud!

Little and large cooking competition

We went to a cooking competition at the Ross High and our names are Aimee and Erin and we are both in Primary 6. We really enjoyed it as cooking is one of our favourite things to do. Our helper was Paige who is S3 and she was a very good helper and kept us right in what to do. We also need to say a big thank you to Mrs Fleming who brought us down and took amazing photos of us. We really enjoyed it.

Thanks by, Aimee and Erin
