We have received the following information about the Winter Menu:
“After some consultation and reflection regarding the Chicken, Sweet Potato and Coconut Curry dish on the new Winter Menu we have decided to remove this dish and replace it with Chicken and Sweet Potato Curry. This decision has been based on a couple of queries from pupils and teaching staff with nut and tree nut allergies which does include coconut. Whilst our menus are always nut free, we will now ensure all dishes are free from tree nuts too.”
The following menu has been given to the pupils to take home:
I am currently updating the School Website and am looking at ways to help you support your child at home.
As I know parents often worry about how to discuss Internet Safety with their child at home, I have started by looking at this.

We have been asked to pass the following information onto parents regarding school meals:
Primary School Spring/Summer Menu 2014
The 3-week Spring/Summer menu will start in all primary schools on Tuesday 22 April. The new season meal consists of a main meal and dessert and includes vegetables, bread, salad and a cold drink. This menu is available Monday–Thursday with a packed lunch option available on Friday.
The health and well being of children is at the heart of everything we do. The new menu meets all of the Scottish Government’s nutritional standards. We have again been awarded the Soil Association’s Bronze level Catering Mark. This recognises that the majority of dishes on our menus are freshly- prepared and that the ingredients do not contain undesirable additives, hydrogenated fats or genetically modified (GM) products. Also that we use free range eggs and seasonal vegetables (locally produced when available), farm assured meat and poultry and fish from sustainable sources.
East Lothian Council aims to make school meals as accessible as possible, so the price of a primary school meal will stay at £1.90 with no increase in August.
We see the ongoing positive changes as a means of encouraging more children to take school meals.
Research shows that if children eat a nutritious midday meal at school,
-their concentration and behaviour improves
-they gain important social skills
-they are more likely to eat their recommended ‘5 a-day’ fruit and vegetables
We see communication with pupils, Head Teachers and parents/guardians as essential to the success of any improvements we make to school catering. We communicate through school newsletters, school websites and East Lothian Council’s website.
We hope your children enjoy the new season menu and please contact us if you require any more information.
