The Cross Country Running Competition – by Daniel L

A while ago there was a running competition called The Cross Country.   It was held at Meadowmill and there were a lot of other schools there.

Daniel, Charlie, Tom, Scott, Fraser, took part in the big school boys race.  Tom won the category of boys from a larger school.

We all enjoyed taking part.

Charades Theatre – The Mould that Changed the World

P5, 6&7 are working with the above company on a world premiere of a musical which highlights the work of Alexander Fleming.

There is no cost for the families as such and the company is working on raising the funds to pay for the hire of the museum for the evening performance. The charge is high but we can’t find a way round it so they came up with this possible solution. As a result, Robin Hiley (head of the company) has made a short video using our classes to place a campaign on a crowd funding website.

I would like to underline that we are not expecting our families to donate to this but you may know people who would feel they could.

One of our school ‘friends’, Mr Roy McGregor, has already gifted us the funds for one of our coaches which is so generous. Edinburgh Art College has made the costumes for the event so they should look fantastic.

Please return your slips so that we can get the additional tickets out to families. There is no need to reply as we are dealing with this side- the slip is basically your reply and you get the ticket to ‘book’ your place.

Sporting Successes

We sent two teams consisting of P6 and P7 pupils to the recent ELPSSA hockey tournament at Meadowmill, where a great day was had by all. One of our teams made it to the final, where a defeat to Kings Meadow Primary resulted in second place, but a qualification to the Regional Finals at Peffermill in the summer term.

Our other team came in third place on the day, and qualifies for the SHU National Hockey Day to be held in Glasgow in June. What a superb achievement for both our teams.

The team members were: Freya L, Imogen C, Morven C, Amy C, Iona S, Megan F, Ellis M, Anna D, Isla M, Emily C, Freya E, Lily W, and Olivia T.

A team of our P7 girls recently took part in the annual football tournament, an event that we have not had much success in in previous years, being up against very strong opposition from other schools. This year the opposition was of an equally high standard but our girls rose to the challenge, beating every team they played and bringing the trophy back to Gullane. Fantastic job, ladies!

The team members were: Lucy T, Anna D, Ellis M, Megan F, Iona S, Morven C, Ella D and Freya L.

In October, a team of P7 girls and a team of P7 boys took part in the East Lothian Rugby Tournament, with the girls in a pool of 18 teams and the boys in one of 20 teams. The standard of rugby was superb and the opposition was strong, but both our teams reached the semi-finals. The girls lost to Kings Meadow at this stage, but the boys had a good win against Kings Meadow to reach the finals. Up against Yester Primary for the last match of the tournament, the boys performed fantastically well, with a good win to secure the trophy for Gullane, an achievement that we have not seen for the last fifteen years. Huge congratulations to both teams for such impressive results.

The team members were: Lucy T, Anna D, Ellis M, Megan F, Iona S, Amy C, Imogen C, Morven C, Calum M, Scott M-N, Tom M, Alex S, Alfie A, Duncan L, Ben S and Seamus T.
