The Cross Country Running Competition – by Daniel L

A while ago there was a running competition called The Cross Country.   It was held at Meadow mill and there were a lot of other schools there.

Daniel, Charlie, Tom, Scott, Fraser, took part in the big school boys race.  Tom won the category of boys from a larger school.

We all enjoyed taking part.

The Body Systems – P5/6 – by Simra & Angus

In P5/6 we learned about the Body Systems.   Here are the different ones we studied:

1)  circulatory system – The circulatory system helps the heart to pump blood around the body.

2)  digestive system – The digestive system all together is 30 feet long .

3)  skeletal system –  The body has around 206 bones.

4)  respiratory system – The respiratory system is mainly about your lungs and helps you to breathe.

5) nervous system –  The nervous system is about your 2 different pulses.

We enjoyed learning about them and also made some posters in groups.

Euroquiz – by Sam and Freya

On the 20th of March was the Euroquiz and Gullane competed. Us, Christian and Jude were the competitors for the team.  We all had to do lots and lots of practising at school and home.

We went to Preston Lodge High school for the East Lothian Heat. The quizmaster was Mrs Tremmel, our headteacher. The other schools were Dunbar, Loretto, Pinkie, Musselburgh, Saltoun, Macmerry, Prestonpans and Gullane. The 1st round was geography. The 2nd round was language. The 3rd round was basically politics. After the 3rd round there was a break and we got sweets. We were tied with Loretto at that point! The 4th round was general knowledge. After the 4th round we were  ahead of Loretto by one point but we had to go into a final with them .By the 5th round only the top 2 teams remained, us and Loretto!!!! We drew the 5th round. Then we drew the tiebreaker. It was super tense. Then it went to sudden death. Then Loretto got an answer wrong so we won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  That means we get to go to the Scottish Parliament’s Debating Chamber for the final.

We went to the Scottish Parliament to go to the Euroquiz final.  There were three rounds, Geography, Language and understanding europe.  It was a lot of fun and some of the questions were quite hard. We came 3rd out of the 31 schools (470 overall) who made it to the final we got bronze medals and pencil cases and we also got our goody bag.  🙂  🙂  🙂  🙂

The winners were St  Mary Duntocher and Strathblane were 2nd.

We enjoyed taking part and the main things we enjoyed were being away from school for something different and coming 3rd.

Help Required For Summer Fair

Saturday’s getting closer and the weather forecast’s looking great for the summer fair. We will have burgers and Pimm’s and baking and bouncy castles and games and face painting and all sorts of fun for all the family.

However, we are still a bit short of volunteers. If you could offer an hour and a half (11-12.30 or 12.30-2) to help on one of our stalls, we would be very grateful (especially if you’re a face painter!!). Get in touch by DM on Facebook or at gullanepta@gmail.com.

Thanks! PTA

Art, Music & Charades in P5/6 This Year – By Lily W

ART

In art this year we have been doing Victorian portraits and will be finishing them off over the next few weeks with Mr Connell. We had a choice between drawing a man with a top hat or a woman wearing a flower hat (I chose the woman.)

MUSIC

In music this year we worked on some Scottish songs.  We did the songs;

Caledonia, Skyscraper wean,  Johnnie Cope, Braes o’killie krankie

We also learned the ukulele. We have learned 3 chords C, F, G, because  we will be singing This Is Me and playing it on the ukulele, using those 3 chords sometime!

CHARADES

P5/6/7 have been doing a musical, with Charades the Theatre Company, called The Mould That Changed The World. P5s are the bacteria, P6s are the doctors and scientists and P7s are the soldiers (Charades are doing the other parts.)We are performing it at the Theatre Day Royal Museum Edinburgh on the 13th of June and before we do it  are recording some of our songs and to put it on the radio.
