Iced Sea Biscuits
We have been reading the Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch in class and making some of Mrs Grinling’s lovely recipes to try. Yesterday we used icing to pipe designs onto biscuits we made.

Spring Collages
On Monday we went for a walk around Gullane and the school looking for signs of Spring. We took photographs of what we found. Today we talked about the colours we saw and made spring colour collages.

This week we have been exploring the number stories of 10. Mr D saw a fantastic idea on the Yester Primary 1 website and thought the class would enjoy it. We made numberlines from 0-10 and then joined the number bonds that make 10 using different colours. We had a great time making our rainbows – thanks to Yester for the super idea!

We have been learning how to work with clay to create some 3D art. Our first lesson focused on making round tiles and pressing patterns into them. We added petals and painted them to create flower tiles. Our second lesson was about creating square and rectangular tiles which we then added texture to, to create tiles that looked like the fields around our school. We mixed yellow and blue to make green and painted them.

We have been learning about plants and how they grow. We have been watching different seeds and beans and recording changes we see. We have used Kidpix to draw flowers.

In P1 we are learning about making words using the sounds we know. We are also learning how to put these words together to make sentences. Here are some examples of our work.

Young Designers
The children in Primary One have been challenged to design and create a birthday present for Onion. In small groups the children had to plan what they were going to make, how the toy would work and what materials they were going to need. On Friday the children are going to create their toys using materials they have gathered from home and school. Here are some of their design plans.

We have been finding out about toys. We brought in our favourite toys and took photos of them, and have been investigating what makes them go, and sorting them into different categories. We also drew detailed pictures of them.
