Core Theme

The ‘Core Theme’ of the IB Philosophy Course is the question of what it means to be a person (or a human over time, or a mind, or a brain, or whether these questions are all the same!).

Below are a couple of pages about some of the most famous answers.

Descartes – the root of all our problems?

Hobbes – how violent are you naturally?

Aquinas – a surprising solution…

Hume – a bundle of what?!? Kant’s inspiration and nemesis.

Kant – Champion of reason or more than that?

Kierkegaard – Diagnostician of Despair.

Sartre – nothing?!?

Wittgenstein – Descartes backwards?
