Muffins and Popcorn!

img_0038The nursery children have been very busy making and selling tasty muffins and popcorn to the older children in the school this week to raise money for Children in Need. Over the last two days, they have managed to raise £112.
Thank you to all the children and parents who have bought from our stall and helped to contribute to this wonderful total.

Football Fun!

Today P1/2/3 have been playing football outside. Lorna and Gregor came to teach us some football skills. We learnt that there were four different parts of your foot that you can use to kick a ball. Do you know what they are all called?
We ended the session by playing some mini matches. It was really cold outside today, but we all had fun.

My team won the second match – Anders
I liked playing disco tig as a warm up – Maddie
My team won one match and drew the other match – Duncan
My favourite part was playing the mini matches – Sarah
I liked playing toilet tig as a warm-up activity – Jacob and Cara
We all learned how to do a L-turn trick today – Duncan
At the end, Mrs Hood made us run round the pitch together to warm us up! – Carla

Autumn Learning in the nursery

The nursery children are learning about Autumn and some of the different celebrations which take place at this time of year. Last week on our weekly Learning Walk, we used our senses to look for signs of Autumn. We also collected lots of autumn leaves and seeds, and have been using them to create some wonderful transient art pictures back in the classroom.
Earlier this week, we all enjoyed dressing up in our Hallowe’en costumes and taking part in some activities: dooking for apples, carving a pumpkin lantern, making handprint ghosts and decorating a spider bun.

Please enjoy looking at some photos of our recent learning experiences.
We would be delighted if you left us a comment. Thank you!

Our Nursery Year

Today we invited the nursery parents in so we could share our experiences from the last year with them. We have managed to cram in so much – making friends, lots of mud play, yummy food, outings, fun and LOTS of learning!
We also said goodbye and good luck to the four Pre-school children who are moving into P1. We will miss you, but we know that we will still see you around the school.
Please enjoy looking at the slideshow of some of this year’s special moments.
Wishing you all a very happy summer break and thank you to all the parents for your support throughout the year.

Hunting for Minibeasts with the Countryside Ranger – 1st June 2016

Today Brian, the Countryside Ranger, came and joined us for Nature Play. He told us about the different woodland animals that may visit the larger wood, and then helped us to look for some minibeasts. We shook a tree and collected the minibeasts which fell off on to a white sheet underneath. We then used our magnifying glasses to look at the creatures more closely. We had fun trying to use stethoscopes to listen to the trees drinking up water. We also tried listening to our own heartbeats.

We managed to find lots of minibeasts hiding under the log seats – beetles, slugs, woodlice, spiders, millipedes and worms. We then enjoyed celebrating Olivia’s birthday with a slice a cake in the little wood, before returning to Nursery.

Thank you, Brian, for sharing your knowledge with us today.

French Café and Showcase – Tuesday 31st May 2016

Today the children from Nursery up to P5 enjoyed sharing their French learning with their families and friends. They performed a showcase of their favourite French songs and games learned throughout the year, whilst the audience enjoyed refreshments served with croissants and pain au chocolat.

Thank you to this year’s French assistant, Cylia, and to Madame Swan who taught us how to say the words correctly and helped to generate a keen interest in learning French throughout the school.

We all look forward to continuing to learn French next session.

Nursery Adventure Course – 17th May 2016

Today the nursery children had so much fun completing a Sponsored Adventure Course. The children had previously chosen the different activities to include, and these were set up in the nursery garden and in the main school playground.
Each child was then encouraged to complete 10 laps. Activities included: whizzing down the slide, crawling through a tunnel, wriggling under a scramble net, running, jumping, rolling tyres, throwing beanbags and wellies, and pedalling a bike or scooter around a track. All children showed great determination and perseverance, and amazed everyone with their stamina and energy.
We are going to use the sponsor money we collect to buy new resources for our Nursery, which the children will help to choose in the next few weeks.
Many thanks to all the wonderful parents who came along to help and cheer on the participants.
Well done, everyone.
The teachers were VERY proud of you all!
UPDATE: The children raised £360! An amazing achievement for just 11 children.

Nursery Nature Play

The nursery children enjoyed their first session of Nature Play this week. They had fun exploring the woodland and playing with the different resources. They hunted for bugs, swung in the hammock, made mud, collected grass and daisies for ‘snack soup’, enjoyed eating their real snack in the den and generally had a fantastic time engaging with nature and their friends in the open air. Everyone is looking forward to the coming weeks and more Nature Play sessions.
