This week the children have been taking part in a number of healthy activities. So far these have included potted sports with some DGS pupils, a walk around the village, dodge-ball and zumba.
The rest of the activities included making fruit kebabs, yoga, cricket, playground games, bowls, badminton and Sports Day.
Last week, as part of health week, the children enjoyed taking part in many different activities. Thanks to everyone who came in to school to lead the activities.
Despite the terrible weather all week we managed to get out when we could to try out lots of healthy activities. We tried rugby, bowling, orienteering and the ranger came in and we helped him finish off the bug hotels. Some older pupils came in from the Grammar school to run a potted sports afternoon and we raised money for charity by completing the Jump Rope for Heart skipping challenge. And of course we continued with things like shake to wake and the daily run. We also thought about our emotional and social health by thinking about what makes a happy school and class. We have started a piece of art work to demonstrate our views. And in our Olympic topic we had to deliver our presentations on competing countries.
It has been a very busy, fun packed week for us all during Health Week.
Today Tina took a group of 6 pupils from P1-P6 to make fruit punch which was then served to all of the other pupils in their classes.
As well as fruit juices, sparkling water and apples, we included portions of pink grapefruit in the punch. Lisa, Natasha and Rhys hadn’t tasted it before and we are not sure if they will taste it again! See what you think from the photos!!!
Our pupils have enjoyed sessions of Zumba with Laura Ross this morning!
Zumba is a Latin inspired dance fitness program created by dancer and choreographer Alberto “Beto” Perez in Colombia during the 1990s. Zumba involves dance and aerobic elements. Unlike a typical dance class where counts are used, Zumba involves following the music with repetitive movements. Zumba’s choreography incorporates hip-hop, samba, salsa, merengue, mambo, martial arts and some Bollywood and belly dance moves.
Please look at our slideshow to see the fun that our P1/2 class had taking part in Zumba this morning!
