Thank you to all the P4-7 pupils who came along to the STEM after school club over the last 6 weeks. I didn’t anticipate how popular the club would be and it was great to see so many pupils enthusiastic and motivated over STEM activities. Lots of problem solving, creative thinking and fun!
Another busy STEM session at our after school club!
We used KAPLA to make all kinds of structures – from a spider to a house! We also worked in small teams to design a bridge to get three figures safely over the water without falling in! We could only use paper, cardboard, sticky tape and string…
Fantastic chance for the pupils of both P4/5 and P6/7 to try their hand at programming with the Lego Mindstorm challenge. The pupils learned how to programme their robots and had to use these newly learned skills to tackle a series of increasing more complex problems. Working together, the pupils had to utilise different sensors on the robots to get their robots to drive round obstacles, turn corners and even carry out a small dance!
P4/5 have had a busy afternoon continuing with our human body topic.
During PE this afternoon, we calculated our heart rate when resting and compared it to our heart rate after doing physical activity. We then described how our pulse rate changed after exercising, and explained why it had changed.
Then it was back to class where we worked collaboratively to plan, script and perform an advert for leading a healthy lifestyle. Simon Cowell even made an appearance to judge some healthy and unhealthy lifestyles!
This week P4/5 have been looking at bones as part of our human body topic. Today we made an x-ray of the bones in our hand using cotton buds and icing sugar. It was very messy!
