Mrs Ancell helped us make bird cake today.

We wanted to help the bird survive the winter so we made them bird cakes with raisins, lard, cheese, wheetabix and seeds.

What temperature is it?

Posted by: | January 31, 2017 | No Comment |

As part of our winter topic we have been recording the temperature outside. It was 3 less than 10 this morning. By counting our fingers, taking some away and recounting them we figured out that it was 7 degrees this morning.

Through our day and night theme the children have become interested in space. So we have been….
*making rockets and talking about shapes
*using a computer game to match shapes to the rocket
*counting down from 10
*we watched videos of a rocket launch, a man walking on the moon, the view from the space station
*creating stories about planets and astronauts whilst playing in the discovery tray
*and lots more!!!

Helping Hedgehogs

Posted by: | October 4, 2016 | No Comment |

Hedgehogs are in decline. We watched the video below and made a list of things we could do to help the hedgehogs then we checked in our garden to see if we had a ‘hedgehog friendly garden’. We had to move our hedgehog house and cut a small hole in our fence. Can you help hedgehogs in your garden?

Seb found a hedgehog at his front door last night.  “My dad brought him inside.  We put him in our garden”

The sunflowers have started to die and produce seeds. We used tweezers to get them out which is great for developing fine motor skills. Also a great opportunity for some counting!

We also have been counting peas that we harvested and creating threadings – all great for fine motor development!
