Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood programme

Posted by Caroline Danks | Posted in Information for Parents | Posted on 29-04-2021

Dear Parent/Carer

As you may know, East Lothian Council schools are using the Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood  programme (RSHP) to support our teaching in the Health and Wellbeing aspects of Curriculum for Excellence.

We are in the process of implementing the programme across the school.  Some year stages including P6 have already done work on this, but other stages are about to start, including P1 and P5.

The full programme, including lesson plans, is available on their website and we encourage you to have a look and discuss with your children what they have been covering at school.

Early Level covers Nursery to P1, First Level is P2-P4 and 2nd Level is P5-P7.

The programme is aimed at delivering Beginning to the first stage within a level (for example P2 for First Level) and Progression 2 for the last stage within a level (for example Progression 2 for Second Level in P7).

Please contact the school office if you have any questions.

Safer access to the new campus

Posted by Caroline Danks | Posted in Information for Parents, Parent Feedback, Safer Routes to School | Posted on 26-04-2021

Dear Parents / Carers,

Welcome back to school and hope the kids had a great break.  The Parent Council Team have been busy over the holidays and have some news to share.

We wanted to flag up that the plans for the new nursery school (moving to the main school campus) are online and can be viewed here  Planning ref: 21/00229/PCL.  We believe that the new facility will be a much needed and exciting resource for the children of North Berwick. However, it will have travel and access implications FOR ALL PARENTS / PUPILS who use the primary or NBHS as there will be no parking facilities at the nursery for parents. We have therefore set up a further meeting on Wednesday 28 April to outline these issues and try to find resolutions.  We really need you at this meeting to speak up for safer routes to get our kids to school so PLEASE come along:

Wednesday 28 April, 19.00 This will be a meeting to discuss accessibility to the main school campus. Our Active Travel Group has concerns about the lack of safe access routes for pedestrians. This meeting will provide an opportunity to hear directly from ELC planning, roads and climate change departments. We will also present our concerns, and proposed improvements for making the area safer Register here to join us –

After you have looked at the plans and/or attended the meetings, if you have any concerns or thoughts about them then the Parent Council are collating parents input and will submit these as one to East Lothian Council.  We will issue a survey to capture your thoughts.

Please note that if we do decide to submit an objection, it will be based on travel issues NOT the internal plans for the nursery as a parental consultation has already been carried out to look at these plans.  You are entitled to submit your own concerns to East Lothian Council directly – but please note this deadline is Friday 23 April. We have been granted an extension to this date for a collated response through the Parent Council of the 4th of May.

Any queries / comments please email the Parent Council.

Best wishes

Parent Council Team

World Book Day – Thursday 4th March 2021

Posted by Caroline Danks | Posted in PTA Posts | Posted on 26-02-2021

World Book Day is next Thursday 4th March. Children in Primary 1-3 are invited to come into school that day, dressed as a character from a book if they wish to do so.  To reduce the number of personal items being brought into school at this time, please do not bring in dress up accessories such as hats, masks or wands. Donations to PTA funds would be very welcome (suggested £1).

Children in Primary 4-7 will be celebrating World Book Day with their class teachers as part of their home schooling.  Children in the Critical Childcare Hub are welcome to come to school dressed as a character from a book if they wish.

Kind regards,

Learning Estate Review Pre-consultation

Posted by Caroline Danks | Posted in Information for Parents | Posted on 26-02-2021

East Lothian Council’s vision is to develop a modern, safe, sustainable learning estate that enhances and supports communities while improving the lives of families equally no matter what area they are in. We’re now undertaking a pre-consultation activity which will help to inform a review of our Learning Estate.

An online survey has been created to gather views from the community. This feedback will help inform how we move forward with a full Learning Estate Review.

The pre-consultation public survey will be open from Monday 22nd February until Monday 15th March, during which time the survey will be accessible on the East Lothian Council Consultation Hub.

More information and the online survey can be found at
