Longniddry Primary is a non-denominational, co-education school situated on the coastline of East Lothian.

Due to the expanse of new building that took place in Longniddry, the school grew from a four class rural school to fourteen classes.  The population has now stabilised however, due to the end of the building programme and generally less movement within the village.  This has led to a decrease in our numbers and the creation of some composite classes within the school.

Composite classes are organised on an age basis in accordance with East Lothian Council’s policy.  This policy does not affect the educational provision for the children since each child is educated in accordance with his/her needs.

The semi open plan extension, accommodating the majority of the school, was opened in 1978.  At this time the existing school building was refurbished to accommodate mainly administration offices and dining facilities.

Our school is on two levels and has been adapted to provide access for children with disabilities including toilet facilities.

The school is well used by pupils after school hours for extra-curricular activities and also accommodates a variety of adult education opportunities.  An after school club operates in our dining hall.

  1. Just saw your pupils on TV news and thought you deserve my congratulations on such a fantastic effort and pride you gave East Lothian. Well done. Brian T

  2. Just wondering when the original part of the present school was built/opened.
I know it was extended in 1978 but I think it is from mid 30’s?
Reason for asking is my father attended from 1936 approx. and just trying to piece together some family history.
    Thanks.

    Thanks in advance

  3. Hello Mr Wood

I think the original part of the school building was built in 1931 and the extension added in the 1970’s. Good luck with your research.

    Best wishes
