Welcome back and Rhyme of the Week

We hope everyone had a lovely holiday and are all ready for busy term ahead. We welcome Carol Malcolm to the nursery team who will be working for the next couple of weeks on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon.

This weeks rhyme of the week is ‘I’m a little teapot’

I’m a little teapot, short and stout,

Here’s my handle, here’s my spout.

When I see the teacups, hear me shout,

Pick me up and pour me out.

Water challenge and fun day!

Yesterday and today some children from the Nursery and Primary 1 came together to solve a problem out in the nursery garden. The children had to work together to create and build a pathway for the magic water to reach the magic bean. The children used their knowledge of the properties of water and forces to create a slide for the water to flow down. We look forward to discovering what the magic bean will grow into!

East Lothian Courier Photograph

Please note that the East Lothian Courier will be visiting the nursery on Monday 20th March at 11am to take a group photograph of the children who are moving into primary 1 in August 2017. If your afternoon group child is going to school and you would like them to be in the photograph please bring your child along to the nursery on Monday morning at 10:50.

If you do not wish your child’s photograph to be taken please let a staff member know.

Thank you.

World Book Day

Today the nursery celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as our favourite book characters. The morning group visited Primary 1 for shared busy time and the afternoon group paraded round the school showing their fabulous costumes. Primary 6 came to read the children’s books to both groups. Have a look at our super day.

World Book Day Thursday 2nd March

This year World Book Day is on Thursday 2nd March. Next week we will be thinking about our favourite stories and characters and will be doing various activities around this.

On Thursday the children can come dressed to nursery as their favourite book character and bring their favourite story with them (please put your child’s name on the book).

We look forward to seeing all the children dressed up next week.

Friday Morning at the Art Exhibition and Music!

Today the afternoon group visited the Art Exhibition and enjoyed a sing a long with Janice.

It was lovely to see some of our morning group friends join us as we visited the exhibition. We spotted our Jackson Pollock creations as well as some ‘Bosch’ beautiful monsters and spotty ‘Pointillism’.

When we returned to the nursery we had a fun sing a long with Janice. We pretended to be seals and elephants as we sang ‘Mama’s taking me to the zoo tomorrow’, and practised our ‘Yeehaa’ for ‘Coming round the mountain.’

We hope everyone has a lovely half term break and see you all on Tuesday 21st February.

Spots in the Nursery

Today the children came to nursery dressed up in their spotty clothes to raise money for Children in Need. The children enjoyed creating dotty patterns with paint.

Digging for potatoes!

Today the nursery children dug out our planter. In the Summer term the children planted seed potatoes and they were delighted to dig out two enormous potatoes and many small ones. We look forward to cooking and tasting them for our snack tomorrow!
