2017/18 Childhood Flu Campaign

Parents are being urged to join the fight against flu this winter by ensuring children aged 2 to 5 get the flu immunisation

With health professionals warning there is potential for this year’s flu season to be serious, the campaign encourages parents to make an appointment with their GP practice to get their child immunised

The call comes as figures reveal 41% of 2 to 5-year-old children in Scotland didn’t take up the offer of the flu vaccine in 2016.

The vaccine helps protect children against flu and reduces the chance of them spreading the virus to others.

Latest findings from Scotland also provide evidence that the nasal flu vaccine has reduced the risk of hospitalisation in those who are immunised.

Flu is more than just a bad cold. It’s highly infectious with symptoms that come on very quickly and it can hit anyone. The flu vaccine is the safest and most effective way to help protect against flu this year.

Meeting for new P1 Parents

Just a reminder to all nursery children going up to P1 at Loretto, that there is a meeting for parents tonight at school. The meeting will start at 7pm, in the P1 classroom. We look forward to seeing you all there!

P1 Enrolment

We’re starting the enrolment process for children eligible to start P1 in August 2017. If your child’s 5 birthday falls between March 1st 2017 and the last day of February 2018, they can start school in August 2017. We will be taking enrolments over the next couple of weeks. They must be enrolled by November 11th 2016 at the latest.

If you are coming to enrol your child, you can only do so with the following documents:

  1. A completed enrolment form for Loretto RC Primary (please call into the school office if you need this).
  2. Your child’s birth certificate (and baptism certificate if your child is Roman Catholic)
  3. An up-to-date Council Tax assessment letter. If you do not have this, you should go to your local council office, where they will be able to provide you with one.
  4. A utility bill dated within the last six months.

Please note – the standard enrolment form assumes that this is your catchment school. If you live outwith the catchment area, you need to make an out of catchment placement request.

We have put the enrolment forms and the yellow ‘Information for parents and carers enrolling their child’ booklet in your child’s pigeon-hole at nursery. Please make sure you collect these. Thanks!

Book Fair next week – helpers required!

kids-sitting-on-booksAs you know, Parent Consultations are taking place next week, on Tuesday 11th and Thursday 13th October. The Scholastic Book Fair will be available on both evenings, which gives parents a great opportunity to encourage reading for fun, and also raises money for the school. Loretto receive a small commission on the sale of books from these evenings, which helps us buy more books for the school. We have a great selection of books for you this year, and they are only available on those evenings; there will be no further orders taken. We do need volunteers to run the book fair, though, so if you’re able to help, please let us know at the school office. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Reminder – school photos next Thursday!

Just a wee reminder that Tempest Photography will be in Loretto next Thursday (October 6th) for individual and family photographs. If you have a child in the Afternoon Group and wish them to have their photo taken with a sibling in the school, please bring them to the gym hall at 9am that day. You will need to stay with your child until they have had their photo taken.  Thank you!camera
