Improving our Outdoor Play Space – Part One!

Before!

This week at nursery we have been working together to begin to make our outdoor area a better place for playing and learning.

We now have a designated ‘water area’ outside, with some pipes and tubes attached to the shelter.  The resources we use for our big water play are now all stored in one of the small sheds so the children have easier access to water play.

As you can see by the video, the children from the Morning Group have been using the area and having great fun, learning about gravity, forces and properties of water, as well as developing their gross motor skills and working cooperatively together!

This area is still very much a ‘work in progress’ so if you have any ideas to further improve it, we welcome your suggestions!  We would also gratefully receive any unwanted jugs, tubes, guttering, gutter brackets or anything else that you think might be useful.

Pumpkin Soup!

This week at nursery the Morning Group made pumpkin soup.  We have lots of different kinds of pumpkins to look at just now in nursery, but one was bought specially for cooking.  It was cut open and we looked inside at the seeds and strings!  Lots of us worked to prepare the soup by peeling and chopping vegetables.  The ingredients we used were celery, onions, carrots and pumpkin.  When it was cooked it was blended together to “make it all soupy!”  We got to taste the soup if we wanted to and we voted to say whether we liked the soup or not.  We read the story ‘Pumpkin Soup’ written by Helen Cooper.  The boys and girls in the afternoon group got to try our delicious soup at snack time.
