I would like to thank Mrs McBean, all the staff, children and parents for their kind words, gifts and cards. I have loved teaching at Loretto for the last 24 years and I will miss all the fun and enjoyment that it has given me. Everyone was so kind to me when I left last week and I take all your good wishes with me. It’s been a privilege to help and support the children with their learning and their life experiences. I do plan to relax for a bit but I will stay in touch and look forward to hearing about the continued successes @ Loretto R.C. Mrs Ramage x

Cross Country
Well done to all the children from Primary 7 who took part in The Cross Country at Meadowmill on Monday 19th March. They had to run 1.2 miles on a very cold, damp morning. It was wet and muddy underfoot and quite challenging, so you should all be very pleased with yourselves for participating.
Children with English as an Additional Language (EAL)
Thanks to Paulina Pietrzak, a member of staff at Loretto, we have been made aware of a website than can be accessed at home, to allow children who do not have English as their first language, to spend some time expanding their vocabulary. It is a very interactive site and lots of fun too.
Swimming Success
After doing so well in the swimming heats and qualifying for the swimming finals – Loretto were placed overall winners for the small schools. An excellent achievement. Again demonstrating fantastic team work. This picture was featured in The East Lothian Courier.
Loretto Swim Team
Well done to our swimmers who have qualified for The East Lothian Swimming Finals on Friday 9th February at The Mercat Gait Centre, Prestonpans. We had some outstanding individual performances and it was great to see Loretto pupils cheering each other on and doing exceptionally well in the Team Event.
Family Workshops
Our Friday morning Family Learning Workshops have been going well. Parents have enjoyed coming into school to find out more about supporting their children with learning. A big thank you to all the children and parents who have been involved so far. The children were impressive as they demonstrated their Maths and Reading Skills, and well done to some of our younger children who showed their parents how they learn about letter names, letter sounds and in particular vowels. This morning’s workshop allowed Dads to work with their children to create a bird box with some very successful results.
Many thanks to DadsWork for coming in to do the workshop with us – everyone enjoyed it.
Loretto Golf Academy
Do we have any budding golfers at Loretto RC? We have been invited by Loretto School to attend a Golf Event. There will be an U9 and an U11 event – you are not required to have a handicap. So if your child plays golf could you please hand their name into the school office. We are required to enter by Friday 8th September. Why not have a go?
Sports Day
Loretto will hold it Sports Day on Friday 16th June. The children will compete in Houses to earn points for both their House and themselves. These points will be added to the House Points already earned throughout the year. The Winning House and the Sports Champions will be announced at our Celebration of Achievement at the end of term. This year there will be a few changes to our usual format as we plan to have more races. Unfortunately, there will not be time for adult races. The children will be given House badges but can wear House colours if they wish. We are still in need of parent helpers, so if you can help, please give your name to the school office. We still require ten adult helpers. All helpers should meet with Mrs Ramage on the football pitch at 9am on Friday. Thank you for your support.
Loretto Medal Winners
On a very hot Thursday, almost 20 children from Loretto represented the school at an Athletics Comp @ Meadowmill. Conditions were unusual for an outdoor sports event in Scotland! Not what we are used to. Fortunately, we had come well prepared with caps, sunscreen and water and luckily there was also sunscreen and water provided. Our team did their very best and encouraged each other to run fast, throw far and jump high. It was a great team effort and our relay teams did very well. Loretto managed to be amongst the medal winners. We won both the P6 girls High Jump and the P6 girls 160m. Thanks to Mrs Sellwood who prepared the pupils. The girls will receive their medals at a whole school assembly. Well Done.
Health Week @ Loretto
This week @ Loretto we have all been very active. We are running our daily mile and we have taken part in Dance and Judo. A big thank you to the Primary 6’s and Primary 7’s who took part in the Basketball Tournament. You entertained us with your skills and your determination to play well as part of a team. Very Well Done!
Thanks also to the Primary 7’s who are leading us in a whole school work out after lunch.
