Special Christmas Short Story Competition

We are inviting all P1 to P7 children to enter this exciting Christmas competition and we’re looking for LOTS and LOTS of imagination!

The challenge is to create your own short story using no more than 250 words (no minimum).  The story must have a Christmas theme and can be happy, funny, silly, spooky or whatever Christmas spin your imagination takes.  Entries must be in by Friday 14th December and there will be a winner from each class.

P1, P2 and maybe some P3 children would like to dictate their story to a parent/guardian for entry.  Please do remember that there is no minimum word count.

Get your Santa thinking caps on and put your imagination into creating a wee Christmas cracker!

Christmas Boxes Deadline – Tuesday 27th

Dear Parent/Carer

Thank you so much to all of you for your kind donations of Christmas Boxes for the children of Belarus. There are some super gifts among them and the children will be very happy to receive them. This is the final weekend before the deadline for handing in your boxes to the school and we thought you might appreciate a wee reminder to add a few extra items to your shopping lists this weekend!

The boxes need to be in school by the end of the day this TUESDAY, 27th NOVEMBER.

Thank you, once again, for making the effort to help – it really is appreciated.

Karen and Lynn.

Christmas Fair 2012

The Christmas Fair is fast approaching (Saturday 1st Dec from 10am until Noon).

We are looking for donations for any of the following :-

  • Raffle Prizes,
  • Bottles for the tombola (UNOPENED bottles of ANYTHING accepted)
  • Christmas Groceries for the Hampers
  • Good quality preloved toys, books and dvds.
  • Unwanted gifts looking for a new home.
  • Home Baking
Anybody wishing to donate can leave their donation at the school office, or get in touch with any Parent Council member if you need it collected.
Home Baking can be brought along to the Fair on the day (or the day before at the earliest)

We are also looking for volunteers to help set up stalls on the Friday and first thing on the Saturday morning, volunteers to run stalls (even if it’s only for half an hour or so, to give someone else a break), and also to help clear up at the end of the fair.

A note will be coming home with your child this week, which will also have a form attached for Calendar orders and Raffle Ticket orders for those of you unable to attend.

Please contact any Parent Council member if you wish to volunteer as it is your continued support that makes these events the success they are.

NEW SCHOOL UNIFORM SUPPLIER

School Uniform items will now be supplied by a local, Musselburgh company called Image Scotland.  After doing a comparison between three companies, including the existing supplier, Image Scotland provided the best price and quality for school uniform.  We have used this company for the P7 classes for leaving t-shirts and hoodies and have found their service, quality and prices to be very good.

All the same items are available and the school jackets/fleeces are now available in both Navy and Royal Blue (same as the school sweatshirt).   An order form will be sent home with children over the next few days and a copy of it will also be available to download from the school website.  All items ordered through the school are available at the prices detailed on the order form and are delivered free to the school labelled with your child’s name and class.  Sample items are available in the school if would like to try any items on to check sizing before ordering.

The company also provides a mail order system.  If items are delivered directly to your home then post & packaging will be charged.  However, you may wish to use this link to view the items available before placing your order with the school –  http://loretto.imagescotland.com

Order forms can be returned to school at anytime but if you would like to order items for next term then please return your order to the school by Friday 7 December to ensure delivery before the end of term.

Lots of news from P1/2

It has been so long since we have been able to tell everyone about what we have been doing that we have lots to tell you!

Firstly, we have just started our new topic on ‘SPACE’ and in our classroom we have a spaceship.  Only 4 astronauts are allowed in the spaceship at any one time and we can travel to any planet we like.  But we must remember to fill in the log book to say where we have travelled.

A few weeks ago we went on a trip to Edinburgh Castle as part of our ‘Castles’ topic.  At the castle we seen the one o’clock gun and we heard it going off – it was very loud!!  We also got to dress up as Kings and Queens which was great fun.

We have been very busy this week rehearsing for our assembly on Friday.  Our Assembly is about ‘Advent’.  But we can’t tell you anymore just now as we want to keep it a surprise for our Mums & Dads who are coming along to watch.
