Primary One Places for August 2021

Information from: School Placements, Education Service, East Lothian Council

Letters were sent on 8 December 2020 informing parents of the school at which their child had been allocated a primary one place for August 2021.

If you wish your child to be considered for a place in the catchment Roman Catholic school, you must complete an online application before 31 January 2021.  The online application can be found here:         https://eastlothianconsultations.co.uk/education/primary-one-enrolment-august-2021-application

Detailed information regarding the P1 enrolment process for the August 2021 intake can also be found here:      https://www.eastlothian.gov.uk/p1_enrolment

If you are having any difficulties in completing the application or have any queries, please contact   schoolplacements@eastlothian.gov.uk

NHS Lothian Children’s Services website

NHS Lothian is working to create a new website for Children’s Services and all child health information for families living in the Lothian area.  The site will focus on information for children, young people, parents, carers and families about our hospitals, clinics, treatments and conditions, etc. helping empower them with information about their health care, and reduce anxiety by giving young people a place to understand about coming to hospital for an admission, tests, or for a clinic appointment.  The site will launch in 2021 and will also include information about the new Royal Hospital for Children and Young People in Edinburgh.

An online survey is open for children, young people and their parents and carers to help shape the design of the site by sharing feedback on some of the styles the website might take.  The survey is anonymous and will only take 5-6 minutes to complete.

P1 Enrolment for August 2021

Normally parents would attend their catchment primary school to complete an enrolment form for their child for the Primary 1 (P1) intake in August 2021.  Due to the current restrictions on parents/carers entering school buildings during the Covid-19 pandemic, this is not possible this year and we have to centrally allocate a place for your child based on the address currently held in their education record.

What happens next?

I would like to apply for a place at the catchment Roman Catholic (denominational) School

Please complete an online application and upload birth certificates, proof of address, baptism certificate before 31 January 2021 at:

https://eastlothianconsultations.co.uk/education/primary-one-enrolment-august-2021-application

I would like to apply for a place in a non-catchment school

You are required to make this request in writing.  This can be done by downloading and completing a non-catchment placing request form, which can be obtained at: http://www.eastlothian.gov.uk/schoolenrolandplacingrequests

Moving house prior to August 2021

If you move house at any time prior to the start of the school session in August 2021, it may change the school your child is due to attend.  A place awarded to a pupil based on an old address may be withdrawn.  As such, it is crucial that you contact us immediately regarding any change of address by emailing schoolplacements@eastlothian.gov.uk

Further information

If you wish more information or assistance in relation to P1 places, there is lots of information on the East Lothian Council website or please do not hesitate to contact School Placements by emailing schoolplacements@eastlothian.gov.uk

Consultation on Free Bus Travel for under 19’s

Consultation on Free Bus Travel for under 19’s

As you may be aware, the Scottish Government plan to launch a new national travel concession scheme to provide free bus travel for young people under the age of 19. They anticipate that legislation to underpin the scheme would be required to be laid in Parliament in early 2021 and the scheme would come into effect later in 2021.

For the next six weeks (until Monday 7th December), Transport Scotland are running a consultation in regards to this scheme to gather information on the most appropriate ways to provide this free travel to best suit young people. They are hoping the consultation will reach as many members of the public as possible, especially to those who will be impacted by the proposals, including children and young people, their parents and carers and people who work with children in a paid or voluntary capacity.

The consultation can be found on https://www.transport.gov.scot/consultation/consultation-on-free-bus-travel-for-people-resident-in-scotland-aged-under-19/

More information on the proposed scheme can be found on https://www.transport.gov.scot/news/consulting-on-free-bus-travel-for-young-people-under-19/

East Lothian Library Service

Libraries have been sharing a weekly programme of content for families, children and young people on our Facebook page from the beginning of lockdown.  This aims to replicate what would be happening in our libraries.  I’ve attached an idea of the current weekly schedule for your information.

They are moving this content away from the main library Facebook page to a dedicated children and families area at https://www.facebook.com/Children-Young-People-at-East-Lothian-Libraries-100305531897365 and would love you to like the page and engage with the content. With a dedicated page they will be better able to engage and respond to enquiries making it easier to shape the content those using the page would like.
