P2K’s Eclipse Experience

P2K were so excited about Friday’s Solar Eclipse. The whole school made pinhole projectors and went outside to experience the eclipse safely. The boys and girls knew lots about the eclipse and chatted about space for much of the morning. Here they are…

Golden Time in P2K!

This is a belated post! Following on from the success of our Book Festival, P2K think it is important that we inform all of our parents about how we spent the money raised. The children spent time with their talking partner discussing things they would like to buy for Golden Time. The children created a mind map on the board and voted for their favourite activities. The most popular activity was Lego. The children spent some time looking through the catalogues for a good deal and we ordered a box of Lego and some putty. The children are now enjoying playing with these items as well as doing arts and crafts during Golden Time.

P2K share their books with the Nursery!

P2K went to the Nursery this morning to share the books they have written. Tyler explained that we had received a card from the author, Rebecca Colby. Katie read the story, ‘There was a Wee Lassie who Swallowed a Midgie’ to the nursery children. She did fantastically well! The P2K children then read their story to a child from the nursery. The nursery children were a super audience! P2K received delicious biscuits from the nursery children as a thank you. The nursery children did a super job of baking these and they were so good that I didn’t manage to take any pictures before they were all gone!

P2K Book Festival – The Story Goes On…

As you will remember, of course(!), P2K held a very successful Book Festival in October 2014 after completing a book study about ‘There was a Wee Lassie Who Swallowed a Midgie’ written by Rebecca Colby and illustrated by Kate McLelland. The children had written their own versions of the rhyme, ‘There was an old lady who swallowed a fly’ and sold these to their families. The children raised a fantastic amount – £45 and have since spent this on Golden Time activities including a box of Lego. Today, the children received a letter from the author, Rebecca Colby! She had seen the post about their book festival on our website and was so pleased to see that the children had taken such an interest in her book. She said she loves to hear about budding young authors! The children are delighted to have received a personal message from the author. It just shows how impressive the children are! Rebecca Colby has also sent the children a bookmark each – they are excited to use them!

Open Morning in P2K

P2K became teachers at the open morning recently. They really enjoyed teaching the parents and carers who came to the classroom about the learning they have been doing so far this year. Thank you to all who came and helped to make this such a successful event!

Christmas Crafts in P2K

P2K have been very busy over the last couple of weeks creating lovely Christmas crafts. They made a beautiful wall display for the gym hall based on the song ‘Walking in a Winter Wonderland’, they did this by printing with their feet! They also painted lovely pictures of snowmen on canvas’ which they sold at the Christmas Fayre. Thank you to all the parents and carers who bought these and helped to raise money for school funds.

P2K at the Museum of Flight!

Today, P2K and P2M went to the Museum of Flight to celebrate all of the learning we have been doing about Transport this term. We had a fantastic day. We got to explore the inside of a real Concorde plane and really liked looking at the controls in the cockpit. We had fun in the Science centre where we tried using different machines to explore the forces involved in making a plane fly. We learned about lift, gravity and drag. We made our own paper aeroplanes and had a flying race inside a real aeroplane hangar. After all of this we tried on some of the clothes that the pilots of fighter jets wore during the war before having a picnic outside for lunch. To let off steam, we enjoyed some time on the Museum of Flight’s assault course before getting on the bus to come home. What a wonderful day!

P2K Book Festival!

On Friday 3rd October, P2K held a book festival for their families. At the beginning of term the children did a book study about ‘There was a Wee Lassie who Swallowed a Midgie’ by Rebecca Colby and Kate McLelland. They noticed how similar the story was to ‘There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly’. The children decided to write their own versions of the story and Mrs Muhammad bound them to create beautiful books. The children invited their families to our school library to their book festival. The children gave a short presentation about their learning and then the grown ups got to meet the authors! Lucky them! They shared their books with one another and then sold them – thanks to Robyn and Fraser, P7 who helped with the money. We raised £45 and will spend this on Golden Time activities! We had a fantastic day and want to thank all of our grown ups for their support!

Fun in the Gym!

P2 have been learning about travelling movements in the gym.
Here they are stilt walking, balancing, hopping, jumping, crawling, cartwheeling (and much more!) all around the gym hall!
