Primary 7 have just returned from a week at school camp in Benmore. It was an exhausting week but everyone had a fantastic time. It was great to meet some of the children who will be going to high school with us. We got the chance to try a whole range of activities including gorge walking, caving, kayaking and abseiling and we approached all the challenges with enthusiasm and faced a few fears! I think the biggest challenge for most of the children was having to make their bed and do other chores around the house!
Primary 3 have been learning all about verbs – “doing” words. We thought of lots of different verbs and made 3D models of people in poses to show different verbs.
Then we looked at adverbs that describe how verbs are done. We all picked a verb and an adverb and had to act it out – the class managed to guess a lot of them!

Children from Primary 4 and 5 have been learning how to make animated films after school. They used lego to make models and then took lots of photos of them in different positions. The photos go together to make it look like they are moving. The children have been using what they have learned in their class work as well!
Here are the first two films they have made – more on the way!

Primary 3 created some art using natural materials. Tanwen came to our class and showed us how to make a dinosaur in the playground. We drew a dinosaur out of simple shapes using chalk on the ground. We filled in the chalk picture with sticks, twigs, leaves and pebbles to make the different textures of the dinosaur.
We all wanted to make more pictures using natural materials.
We have been learning about different People Who Help Us. This morning we had a visit from the White Watch from Musselburgh Fire Station. We had a go at squirting the hoses, and some of us got to try a helmet on. Mrs Gaunt had to put on the boots, trousers and jacket as quickly as she could! We are hoping to have a visit from the police and a nurse over the next couple of weeks, as well as a return visit from White Watch for the Afternoon Group.
John Home Robertson Tournament
Both the boys and the girls teams entered this tournament.
The boys did very well, playing 6 games and winning 5 of them. Unfortunately, despite outstanding playing they narrowly missed winning the cup. The boys have 2 more games this season agaist Wallyford and Stoneyhill. If they win them both they will be in the final for the League Cup, so we wish them luck with those games!
The girls won their cup! They played 5 games, winning 4 of them and drawing the other. They scored 15 goals and only had 2 goals scored against them. The girls have also won the League Cup, and this is a fantastic achievment with the size of our school!
Having two teams playing in tournaments at the same time is hard work, but was made easier with our excellent parent helpers. Thank you very much.
Primary 3 went on a trip to Edinburgh Zoo to learn all about endangered animals. We had a talk about why animals are endangered and then went to see some rare animals in the zoo. We saw a Socorro Dove which is extinct in the wild and some rare tigers and rhinos. Then we had a look at all the other animals in the zoo. It was a tiring day but everyone had a great time and learned a lot!
On Thursday 18 march primary 7 went hill walking
to Lammermuir hills and on Friday 19 march we went to
a rugby tournament at Meadowmill sport centre.
Every one enjoyed themselves. We got to the final
but unfortunately we were beaten by whitecraig.
William Lang (p7)
P7 organised a funraising event around the theme of St Patrick and Irelend.
Thank you to everyone who bought items from our craft stalls and took part in the wear green day. We raised a fantastic £283.28 for SCIAF. A special thank you to P1, P2 and P2C who also donated the money they raised selling smooties to SCIAF.
Primary 3 have been designing and making traps to capture wild animals. We have been drawing our plans, writing explanations of how the traps work and making models of the traps out of recycled junk.
Then we showed the class how our traps worked.
