First meeting of the new year!

The Eco Committee held their first meeting of 2012 today.

We will be holding a logo competition soon for the whole school. Children will have to draw a logo for the eco committee,it  must be something to do with the eco committee.

At this meeting we were traffic lighting our eco display, labelling our compost boxes, making a new rota for composting and paper recycling and discussing all our eco news.

More news from us next month!

The Honest Lad and Lass Visit

On Thursday 23rd June this year’s honest lad and lass, Scott Nisbet and Julie Durham, came to visit Loretto.  The children from primary three had prepared an assembly all about Musselburgh and Fisherrow which they performed to the honest lad and lass, their attendants, parents, and the rest of the school.

Our very own ‘honest lad and lass’ were Cameron and Danielle!

Our Beautiful Butterflies

This term we have been learning about mini-beasts and plants. We have been learning about life cycles and have observed caterpillars turn into butterflies. We watched the tiny caterpillars eat lots of yummy sugar syrup and grow bigger and bigger. They then turned into a chrysalis so we put them in a special net. After two weeks the chrysalis’s opened and we had some new butterflies. Here are some pictures of us releasing them. 🙂

Musselburgh Blue Watch Firefighters visited the Nursery

The morning group had great fun on Thursday with a visit from Musselburgh Fire Station’s Blue Watch. We got to climb in the fire engine and have a go at squirting the hose! They dressed Mrs Gaunt up in the firefighting gear – she looked very funny!
The afternoon group will be getting a visit in a couple of weeks, and we are also hoping for visits from the Police and Paramedics in the near future too!

Life Cycles in the Nursery

We have been finding out about the lifecycles of  butterflies and frogs.

Kara and Scott brought in some tadpoles from their pond and we have been watching them grow.  They now have little back legs, so we hope they don’t start hopping out of their tank.

Our caterpillars started out really tiny but just like the Very Hungry Caterpillar they grew bigger and bigger until they were really huge.  This week the caterpillars have chrysalised and are hanging in their cocoons.  They look very still, but inside they are very busy turning into butterflies.  We can’t wait until they emerge.

REMEMBER DRESS DOWN & BURGERS THIS FRIDAY!!!

REMEMBER…Friday 27th May will be our next dress down and burger Friday.  Burgers will be on sale from 12.15pm from the back door of the dining hall as usual. Burger £1.50, Cheeseburger £1.60 with all profits from this and the £1 charge to dress down going to the Playground Project Fund.

As most of you will know, Musselburgh Athletic have reached the final of the Scottish Cup and will play their match on Sunday 29th May 2011.  To show our support to the team we would like all the children to dress in Musselburgh Athletic colours (which are pale blue and white, similar to the Musselbugh Windsor colours).  Their Manager, David McGlynn, is a former pupil of Loretto RC and is Dad to Aidan (P4) and Arron (P2/3) so we really want to  give them our support.

If you would like to support the club then they have Musselburgh Athletic Scottish Cup Final T-shirts for sale (Adults £7, Children £5).  To buy these please contact Claire McGlynn on 07967 6660671.

SUMMER FAIR SAT 4TH JUNE 2011

Not long now until our Summer Fair and fingers crossed the sun will shine!  We are now looking for donations for our stalls and also volunteers who can help out on the day. If you can lend a hand then please email the parent council @ parentcouncil@loretto.elcschool.org.uk.

Donations of raffle prizes, bottles for the bottle tombola, hamper groceries, plants for our plant stall (I’m sure you can spare a few from your greenhouse!) will be gratefully received.  Please hand them into the school and of course we will accept Home Baking donations on the day.

Lots of fun activities are planned, some new and some old favourites.  Making a return is the popular Beat the Goalie, Sumo Wrestling, Wet Sponge Stocks, Coconut Shy and Face Painting. Our favourite stalls of books, plants, home baking and a special stall from the infant classes will also be available.  We also hope that the Police Community Team and the Police Horses will drop in for a visit.  There will be a chance to grab a barbecued burger for lunch and teas and coffees will be available for Mums, Dads, Grandparents etc who want to have a sit down.

We really hope to see you all there for a fun, family day out which at the same time will be raising vital funds for our school.

Thank you for your continued support.
