Miss Burke’s Farewell Assembly
Yesterday, as part of the celebrations we are having for Miss Burke’s retirement, the whole school contributed to a farewell assembly. The classes sang songs, said prayers, recited Scottish poetry and performed Scottish Country dancing. The children tried to think of things that had been special to Miss Burke throughout her time as Headteacher of Loretto. Miss Burke had pride of place in the centre of the P7s and was joined by her sister and her niece.
Here are some pictures of the performers!
It was a lovely way to end the school day after having had Miss Burke’s mass in the morning.
You are a star Miss Burke! 🙂
Primary 6 helped out at the Nursery Sports Days!
We had fabulous weather for ‘Team Loretto’ at our Nursery Sports Day. The children did brilliantly in the various relay and the individual running races. We couldn’t believe how many times both classes wanted to run to the wall and back!
Many thanks to all who came to watch, and the Primary 6s who provided us with brilliant help and were great sports, taking part in various team events including the ‘invisible sack’ race!

P1’s Chinese Party
Today, to celebrate the success of the Mandarin project, P1 threw a farewell party for our Chinese volunteers. Fiona, Valentina and Vivien enjoyed our party games and loved the Thank You cards that the children had made for them. The children enjoyed trying some Chinese foods – noodles, spring rolls, wantons, prawn toast and prawn crackers. Here they are tucking in!
Boys Football: Semi-Final of the League Cup
Well done to the boys who played against Stoneyhill in the semi-final of the League Cup. The boys were outstanding and well up for the challenge! Gabriel Fadul-Macrae was playing in goals for the first time and did brilliantly. Aidan Garland-McGlynn scored 2 goals and Sean Roberts got a hat-trick making sure we had the win. The boys have won two trophies, with the big one still to play for.
The boys will play Windygoul in the final on the 3rd of July at 1:30pm. All parents are welcome to come along and watch. It will be a very hard game for the boys but if they play as well as they did against Stoneyhill then they will do us all proud.
Good luck boys! Let’s do the treble!

P1 Visit Edinburgh Zoo!
On Wednesday P1 went to Edinburgh Zoo as part of their topic about Animals. We saw meerkats, flamingos, penguins, chimpanzees, a leopard, a tiger and koalas. We were lucky enough to get tickets to see the pandas too. We had a very interesting talk from Kirsty who taught us about Endangered Animals.
We had a fantastic day in the sun and enjoyed a picnic outside for lunch. Here are some photos of our day!
A big thank you to the lovely mummies who helped us out!

P2 have been learning all about the animals of the rainforest this term. Here are some examples of our chalk pastel pictures of animals.
Sustainability Summit
On the 5th of June, Chloe and Ailsa from P4, Lucy C from P5, and Niamh H, Abby and Andi from P6 joined Mrs Capaldi at the Eco Summit hosted by Sanderson’s Wynd Primary School. We listened to talks from some people at the Council who were talking about recycling in East Lothian and got lots of good ideas from the other schools about the things we could do next year in the Eco Committee. We took lots of notes that we will share with the Eco Committee at our next meeting. Here we are getting our photo taken Iain Gray MSP, Stuart McPherson and the children from the other schools. We are preparing a newsletter to share all our Eco successes this year at the moment. Watch this space for more news!
