What is this all about?

This year we are once again offering a fantastic range of collaborative, dialogue-based professional Learning Conversations for teachers to explore, share and develop their pedagogy. In addition, we’re opening our Learning Festival up to all parents and carers interested in finding out how they could further support young people in their learning.

When and where will it be?

Our Learning Festival will open its doors on Saturday 28th October 2017.

It will take place at Preston Lodge High School in East Lothian.

There will be parking on site, and we are well connected with the number 26 bus from Edinburgh and by rail to Prestonpans station.

Full address: Preston Lodge High School, Park View, Prestonpans, EH32 9QJ

What will it look like?

The Preston Lodge Learning Festival takes a learning conversation approach. We ask teachers, parents and carers to sign up to either lead Learning Conversations or attend and participate in these conversations.

What are Learning Conversations and Parent Workshops?

Our Learning Conversations last for 40 minutes and we suggest that you share your own practice or experiences for approximately 20 minutes and lead a discussion with the participants for the remaining time. Parent sessions take on a bit more of a workshop feel, with more direction and input from the leader, allowing you to take it all in. There will still be plenty opportunity for questions and discussion though!

Anyone can lead a Learning Conversation or Workshop, if it’s interesting to you, it will be interesting to others also. Powerpoint is discouraged – we’re aiming for conversations, not presentations. We’ll aim to ensure that your Learning Conversation runs no more than twice to enable you to attend other Learning Conversations also.

The timings will be confirmed in due course, but will be something like…
