LoveLearning 2019 is go!

This year’s Preston Lodge Learning Festival will be held at Preston Lodge High School on

Friday 27th September 2019

What is this all about?

We have been running a Learning Festival at Preston Lodge for the last six years. It’s a festival of learning organised by teachers, for teachers, and allows us to get together and have meaningful, inspiring and fascinating conversations about learning and teaching in our classrooms.

This year’s Festival sees us continue in our Friday afternoon slot, packed with high quality dialogue about all things learning. As always, we will be offering a fantastic range of learning conversations that allow teachers to explore, share and develop their pedagogy. Could there be a better way to start your weekend?

We are delighted that the afternoon will be opened Gavin Oattes, Managing Director of ToK.

With a background in primary school teaching and a successful career in stand-up comedy Gavin is now regarded as one of the most talented and sought after speakers in the UK, regularly delivering keynote speeches at conferences and exhibitions around the world.  From

Gavin will get us going by exploring our “Why?”. He’ll talk about energy, happiness and purpose and set us up for our choice of three Learning Conversations that follow.

When and where will it be?

Our Learning Festival will open its doors on

Friday 27th September from 1.30 – 4.30pm

It will take place at Preston Lodge High School in East Lothian.

There will be parking on site, and we are well connected with the number 26 bus from Edinburgh and it’s only 15 minutes by rail to Prestonpans station from Edinburgh Waverley.

Full address: Preston Lodge High School, Park View, Prestonpans, EH32 9QJ

What will it look like?

The Preston Lodge Learning Festival takes a learning conversation approach. We ask teachers and education professionals to sign up to either lead learning conversations or attend and participate in these conversations.

What are learning conversations and how would I lead one?

Our learning conversations last for 35 minutes and we suggest that you share your own practice or experiences for approximately 15 minutes, and then lead a discussion with the participants for the remaining time.

Anyone can lead a learning conversation. If it’s interesting to you, it will be interesting to others also. PowerPoint is discouraged – we’re aiming for conversations, not presentations. We’ll aim to ensure that your learning conversation runs no more than twice to enable you to also attend other learning conversations.

The timings will be confirmed in due course, but will be something like…

1300-1330 Registration

How do I choose my Learning Conversations or sign-up to attend?

You can sign-up to lead a conversation or to attend as a delegate by clicking on the link below.

If you are from Preston Lodge, our cluster primary schools or Ross High School you don’t need to pre-register as we’ll all be attending as part of our collegiate time. Instead, you’ll get the chance to sign up to conversations when they are launched in August.

Sign me up!

Our in-house staff charity group will be putting on fabulous spread of soup, roll, tea & coffee and tasty bites to fuel our bodies and minds before the afternoon kicks off.  This will be available from 12.30pm in our canteen for the bargain price of £3 and you can sign-up for this on the form, paying on the day, with all profits going to their nominated charities.

We’ll be in touch again in late August with a list of the learning conversations available to allow you to make your choices. Last year, we had over 30 conversations to choose from and we’re well on our way to having even more this year.

Meanwhile, if you have any questions, please contact the LoveLearning19 team at

We look forward to seeing you all on the day!
