University of Edinburgh Career Exploration Events – October/November 2018

The events include practical interactive activities, talks specifically about applying to these subjects and opportunities to meet current students and practitioners in the subject / career areas. They are completely free to attend.
 
The dates and details for this year’s career exploration events are:
  • Friday 19th October: So you want to be an Architect?
  • Tuesday 16th October: So you want to be a Biomedical Scientist?
  • Thursday 18th October: So you want to be an Engineer?
  • Monday 15th October: So you want to be a Lawyer?
  • Friday 23rd November: So you want to be a Nurse?
  • Friday 2nd November: So you want to be a Social Worker?
  • Wednesday 17th October: So you want to be a Vet?

How to Register

Skills Scotland: Careers, Jobs and Apprenticeship Event (Royal Highland Centre Edinburgh)

Skills Scotland Edinburgh is held at the Royal Highland centre, Edinburgh. It brings young people face-to- face with employers, training providers, colleges, universities and professional bodies.

Free to attend, the event helps young people transition into the world of further study, work or training by identifying their ideal career pathway.

EVER CONSIDERED A CAREER IN AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL?

Scottish School-Leavers Urged to Consider Career in Air Traffic Control Amid Predictions of Rapid Flight Growth.

 NATS, the UK’s main air traffic service provider, is calling on students to consider a career in the aviation industry.

NATS currently has around 1,670 controllers whose job is to safely manage the flow of aircraft through the UK’s busy and complex airspace, as well as at 13 of the country’s busiest airports, including Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen. With the forecast growth in flight numbers and the value the aviation brings to the UK economy NATS is looking to recruits hundreds more ATCs over the coming years.

Volunteer Edinburgh’s Recruitment Fair

If you’re considering volunteering, Edinburgh’s Volunteer Recruitment Fair is a fantastic opportunity to meet face to face with over 50 organisations currently looking for volunteers plus access to hundreds of other volunteering opportunities, all under one roof.

Last year our volunteer recruitment fair helped over 1,100 people in their search for volunteering opportunities, connecting them with the organisations that needed their help. Make sure you’re one of them this year.

The fair will feature dozens of organisations from across the city that you can speak to directly, access to volunteering and employment specialists, a friendly café to relax and refresh in, and of course hundreds of volunteering opportunities across Edinburgh.

Interested in a career in the film industry?

Screen Education Edinburgh have started recruiting for this year’s BFI Film Academy Edinburgh and South East Scotland programme, which runs on weekends from October 27th to January 21st and is open to young people aged 16-19 from across Edinburgh, Lothians, Fife, Scottish Borders, Clackmannanshire, Falkirk and Stirling.
 
The Film Academy is an opportunity for creative young people with a passion for film and media to get an insight in to the film industry, receiving high quality training in key craft areas such as screenwriting, directing, production, sound recording, editing and cinematography. The participants will also get the chance to meet and learn from masterclass guests with years of experience in television and film as well as working towards making their very own short film and attaining a formal NCFE qualification: Preparing to work in the film industry.
 
The Academy has proven to help progress the majority of its participants on to college and university to study Film or courses related to the creative industries, and has helped get individuals internships and employment in to the film industry.
