HEAD TEACHER WELCOME
A very warm welcome to Musselburgh Grammar School, a proud and vibrant school at the heart of the thriving Musselburgh community and equally serving the surrounding villages of Wallyford and Whitecraig. I am honoured and privileged to have become the first female Head Teacher of the Grammar in August 2021 as we head towards our 400th anniversary, and I pledge to continue with the vision of making our school ‘one of the best schools in Scotland.’ This is consistent with our school’s motto of ‘Striving for Excellence – Caring for All.’ Our pupil centred approach and ambition for all of our young people is also reflected in our school values of Honesty, Determination and Respect, and in our increasing attainment.
Our school was founded in 1626 and was once described by Dr Tom Renouf, a famous alumni, as a ‘venerable institution.’ We are very proud of our rich history as the fourth oldest school in Scotland, and generation after generation have succeeded at the Grammar School. We have approximately 1,216 pupils ranging in age from 12 to 18 years, and over 140 staff in total. Our aim to is to make sure that your children have the best possible experience with us and leave school with the qualifications, attributes and skills they need to succeed after school regardless of the path they have chosen. It is a pleasure getting to know all of your children and I look forward to working with all families and our community for the benefit of our young people.
