    *** Welcome! NBHS UkuleleOrchestra ***

    About Us

The NBHSUO started when I brought a £15 ukulele to school for a laugh. Turned out Fraser Fulton had one at home. 2 more purchases later by Robert Turton and Ian Shand and we started playing at break and interval.

Our first performance was at the 2009 Christmas Concert. We played Merry Christmas Everyone by Slade at the Senior Citizens Concert and in the canteen during interval. We enjoyed it but we were raw!?

So, we palyed a few other songs with the aim to play It’s a Heartache (in the same style as the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra) for the Easter concert in 2010. A few giggles in anticipation, but boy did we do well. Thanks to Ms Wilson for some coaching!

Since 2009 till July 2013, we have had about 80 performances/ gigs for various charities and events:
Day Care Centre, Riding for the Disabled, Leuchie House, MacMillan Cancer (Dalkieth), Lifeboat Festival, Fringe by the Sea open mike, Trad Fest in Haddington, pantos in school, various fairs, …

The orchestra would not be what it is if it was not for the pupils enthusiastically wanting to play at gigs and learning new songs. At the end of each school year we loose a handful of players which is very sad. However, each year I hope we get a new group of individuals who are as enthusiastic and dedicated to playing the ukulele, having fun and performing.

Here’s to the pupils of North Berwick High School for their dedication ad and kindness in giving up their time for the benefit of others.

    Mr. Roderick
